It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The sun shone bright and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. Parents and friends chatted and laughed around around the great waterfall-like fountain in a city park while children ran about nearby, many of them daring to wade into the pool at the base of the fountain. So long as the kids didn't wander out in front of any cars, no one was particularly concerned. A typical summer day, and with heat that was perhaps mildly uncomfortable.
Typical, at least, until a bright light flashed and something crashed into the fountain. Water splashed everywhere and the carefully-structured rock and concreted crumbled. Two enormous figures were locked in combat amongst the debris: one a giant of a man in golden armor, and the other a far more massive abomination that looked like something from the mind of Lovecraft. As the man's fist rocked into the beast, there was another explosion of light, followed closely by a shockwave, and the pair were gone. All that remained of the fountain was a mound of rock and spraying pipes.
But it wasn't only the shocking sight and the fleeing people causing car accidents all around the area. There was another pair that had appeared in the street, and who remained. One was a quite normal-looking man. The other, a very dazed and somewhat sick silver dragon.

"Nashyll! Are you all right?"
Magnus got back to his feet and dashed to Nashyll, the mind-scrambling effects of the time travel making him stumble through the rubble. The man wasn't even aware of how much his surroundings had changed, or the fact that onlookers were horrified by the appearance of a giant lizard in the middle of their city.
"Nashyll! Wake up! We need to mo... move?"
The man's situational awareness returned suddenly, and with it came the realization that they weren't in the forest anymore. In fact, from what he could gather from the clothing of the people watching them and the weapons that the police were aiming at them, they had changed more than just their location in space.
My crazy luck really outdid itself this time
"STOP RIGHT THERE! HANDS IN THE AIR, RIGHT NOW!"
Magnus had no idea how he would explain to these people what just happened, as he barely understood it himself. Fighting would be a foolish idea, as he was low on energy from his battle with Leros and he didn't know how Nashyll's scales would stand against the men's weapons. Nashyll was too hurt to simply start running though, he'd need some kind of cover if he expected to get anywhere.
"All right, relax, they're up. See?"
With his hands raised, the knight wiggled his fingers to attract the attention of as many people as he could and released a bright, omni-directional blast of light. It was bright enough that everyone who saw it would need a minute to recover, but it would cause no permanent damage. Turning around quickly, Magnus slapped Nashyll's head a few times and attempted to push her up, his feet comically sliding in the rubble and water.
"Come on, come on, wake up sleepy head! We gotta get away before we're covered in holes!"

"C'mon!! Lemme see!" Te boy tried to get a view of the scene just ahead, but he was too short to see over the backs and shoulders to get through. "Let me--" there was a bright flash of light that tore through the crowd. People ducked and screamed, forcing young Hiro to dodge and move quickly to avoid them.
"The heck happened?! What a everyone's--" Hiro suddenly caught a glimpse of a man and a huge, white, reptile surrounded by disoriented cops. "--problem..."
He balled his fists under his chin and grinned broadly, and a faint "Tsugoii!" hissed through his lips. "That is so awesome." He slipped through the crowd, staying slow and unseen, an easy takes for a boy shy of five feet tall.

((She's okay with us playing a little further while she chooses her character.))
When were they going to get a break? Though, perhaps they could have if she hadn't run off to attempt suicide by weird demon children. Or maybe that monster thing would have already killed them if she hadn't.
Nashyll groaned, and just about bit Magnus' hand off as he slapped her. She forced herself to her feet anyway, and nearly collapsed back down from the combination of dizziness and just not being used to to a proper set of quadruped legs, complete with actual bones. It didn't help that when she looked around, everything was... strange. Tall structures of metal, glass, and stone seemed to be everywhere, and the smells assaulting her nose where unfamiliar and unpleasant.
No time to wonder about that. She needed to focus on moving. Trying to walk as quickly as she could without tripping over her own movement-limited legs, she said into Magnus' mind alone, 'I'm going... I'm going...'

"I was expecting more in terms of flying, this is not the time for a leisurely stroll!"
Although the knight understood that Nashyll was very likely still suffering from confusion and was having a hard enough time just being conscious, the situation was dire and they needed to move much quicker. The policemen were already recovering from the flash of light, aiming their guns towards the dragon. Unless he did something drastic soon, there would be no Nashyll to protect, just a mass of bullet-riddled dragon.
"Start flying, NOW! Find a good place to hide, far from the metal towers! I'll catch up... somehow"
With those words, the man teleported quickly between the policemen, placing a hand on each of the guns and overheating them to the point they would not be able to function, much less be held. It was quick and efficient work, but very draining, to where he felt slightly dizzy after the last gun. This flurry and the battle before it had left him too weak to teleport again, giving him no choice but to come up with a way to avoid the barrage of men with nightsticks and tasers coming at him. A smile adorned his face as once again he found himself amused at how easily he found himself in these situations, afterwards simply shaking his head and placing his open hands up in a defensive stance.
"All right, just don't get hit, dodge and run. Piece of cake, heh. Yeah...cake"

'In case you forgot, I don't know how like this,' the dragon grumbled. 'I can barely walk.'
Plus, half her being had just been torn apart only moments before. And there was that whole dizzying whatever-the-hell-just-happened that put them... wherever this was. She was able to shove the strange... carriages...? - aside though, and spreading her wings did at least help her to balance and get a bit more quick and light-footed.

They can't shoot a dragon, thought Hiro. They're, like, an endangered species or something, right?
The crowd dispersing meant Hiro was running out of places to hide. He managed to duck behind a buss stop and take out his phone. "Come on, load, you stupid thing... Yes!" He held up the phone's flashlight and waved it around in the beasts's line of sight. "This way," he murmured. "Away from te scary people." He was prepared to run, but there was no way he'd pass up a chance like this.

Running forward, Magnus suddenly went on the offensive, jumping on a policeman's chest with great force and riding him to the ground. Rolling forward off his opponent to a kneeling position, the knight thrust his palm into the stomach of the guard in front of him, making the man double over in pain. Standing up and rolling over the back of the bent-over cop, Magnus landed on his feet once more and moved quickly to stop a horizontal swing from another enforcer's nightstick. Holding the man's wrist with one hand and the nightstick with another, the knight spun swiftly and disarmed the guard, using the momentum of the spin to smack the next attacker in the stomach and disabling him.
Another cop charged with his nightstick in a downward swing, an attack that Magnus deflected and redirected by the wrist, twisting the man's arm and blocking an incoming attack with the man's weapon. The guard whose attack was blocked was disposed of with a solid kick to the chest, while the one with the twisted arm was pushed off balance and into a group of his comrades, with the knight throwing the nightstick away from the combat. Bending down at the waist, Magnus weaved low and to the left to avoid a swing, then used a circular movement to create momentum and slam down on the cop's hand, using a backfist to the jaw to take the cop out of the fray.
This time, one of the attackers managed to catch Magnus by surprise, holding him by the shoulders as another cop closed in. Without missing a beat, the knight headbutted backwards into the face of the one holding him, spinning out of the hold and having the attacking cop hit his partner by mistake. A forward headbutt and a knee to the face took this attacker out of commission for a few seconds as Magnus dealt with yet another threat, blocking a swing by slamming his forearm into his attacker's and uppercutting him to the ground. When the face-kneed cop came for a second attack, Magnus turned and Judo threw him to the ground, rolling off and onto his feet once more.
Knowing he wouldn't last much longer at this pace, the knight threw one man into the advancing mob, spreading them out and giving him a second to catch his breath. It was then when he noticed Nashyll being driven away from the commotion by a small child, flashing a light at her to grab her attention. Unfortunately for Magnus, this lapse of judgement proved to be a mistake, as he noticed much too late another of his attackers coming in with a downward swing. His attempt to block it ended up smacking his arm against the nightstick, and he fell back in blinding pain.
Holding his arm and trying to get back to his feet, the knight was smacked back down, making him realize he was surrounded with no way out. Most of the police were on him, too many to fight off from this position without killing them, and some had guns drawn and ready to turn him to pulp if he tried anything. Knowing he was defeated, Magnus simply lifted his arms slightly to show he was giving up, only to have them forcefully and painfully twisted to his back as he was cuffed.
"That doesn't twist that way! Easy, easy!"

A glare caught Nashyll's eyes in the chaos - but she had no way to know that the kid holding the light wasn't trying to let someone know where the trouble was. Rather than following the child with the light, the dragon kept going the way she'd started. The longer she ran, the easier it became, so that was good.
You want me to fly? she thought to herself, eyeing one of the tall buildings nearby. Fine.
Nashyll leapt onto the side of the building and started scaling it. If she could just get high enough... maybe she could figure out how to at least glide again.

"Oh no you don't!" Hiro ran up to the building before he could be stopped. He found the elevator, and, sure enough, it still worked. He hopped into it and rapidly tapped the top floor button. The doors closed, leaving Hiro pacing the floor. "Come on, come on!"
The doors opened, and a fat man in a business suit was on the other side.
"No!" Hiro punched the breath out of the man's stomach, and hit the close-door button.

As Nashyll's Heartflame was taken out of Magnus' pocket and placed in an evidence bag, the man was lifted and thrown in the back of the SWAT truck. He tried to fight against his captors, but his exhaustion prevented it from being anything more than a nuisance. The inside of the truck was very bright, the back covered in sigils protecting against various kinds of magic. To the knight's amusement, he was right on top of the sigil against pyromancy, which would most likely stop any of his attempts at escape. There were no defenses against angelic sorcery, but for that he needed focus, time and space to recite an incantation without being filled with lead. The four men surrounding him with high-powered rifles would probably have something to say against his escape, so he decided to stay put.
"Any chance I could get some grapes here? I'm famished."
With no warning, the knight felt a sharp jolt of pain at the base of his skull, making him fold over in pain. As consciousness slipped away from him, he did the only thing he could in his current state, flop into a comfortable position and pass out.

For some reason, Nashyll found climbing to be easier than walking, or maybe it was just that she was finally getting a feel for her legs. She climbed over the ledge to the roof and - no, climbing was easier than walking.
The dragon turned to look for Magnus, but he was nowhere in sight. In a moment, she could no longer pick up on his mind either. Nashyll would have panicked right then, but the scene before her grabbed her attention. The tall structures, so close without touching; the streams of horseless carriages down between; the sheer size of this!
Her mother had told her about places like this as a child. She was no longer in her own time.

Turns out that Hiro needed a special access key to get to the top floor via the elevator, but that only slowed him down a little, as he had managed to scurry through the emergency hatch and climb the rest of the way up the inner walls of the building. Prying open the last set of doors with his hands, he soon came face-to-face with a dragon.
"Whoa," he uttered. "Cool..." He began walking slowly toward the beast, his posture low and one hand out in front of him.
"Hey there, big guy," he said in a calm, even voice (or so it sounded in his mind). "How's it goin'?"

Nashyll's mind buzzed. She was trying to make sense of anything going on, but there had just been too much happening! Those mockeries of dragons, the shadow children, the destroyed town, the... whatever the hell the thing that destroyed the town was... The way it had-
A voice, fortunately, interrupted her spiraling thoughts. Her neck twisted sharply as she searched for the source, not even aware of the low growl she emitted. The dragon's brilliant blue eyes finally came to rest on a child, apparently both fearless and fascinated by her.
Her first thought was to either ignore the kid or him off, but she stopped as she started to turn away. Nashyll looked at him again, hard. She supposed it was better than nothing...
Her mouth never moved, but the boy would hear directly in his mind, 'Tell me of this place. Quickly.'

When the knight woke up, he found himself in the same box he was before. The bright sigils were still there, stopping him from using any flames or sorcery. Thankfully, his cuffs were off, so he was able to use his hands to push himself back up onto his feet. Walking around his prison, the man explored the walls and floor, trying to find any seams or cracks.
Nothing. There doesn't even seem to be a door.
Unsure of what else to do, Magnus walked to the sigil that was blocking his flame powers. Running his fingers over it, he tried to scrape off the material that made them up, with no success. Deciding to take a different approach, he moved a few steps back, focused on the center of the sigil and slammed his fist into it with all his might. The stabbing pain that wreaked havoc across his knuckles and wrist proved this attempt futile.
Nothing but pain from that. Light's giving me a headache... At least they left my coat on me.
Moving to one corner of the room, the knight held the coat up to block most of the light, creating an area of shade that would let him rest his eyes while he decided his next move.

Hiro looked around him. "H-hey, who--" He looked back at the dragon. "Did you--just speak into my head?" He shook himself out of his stupor and attempted to answer the question.
((Disregard anything that doesn't apply, I'm just babbling now))
"Uh, right, well, the year is 2014, you're in the USA, uh, dragons aren't supposed to exist, but apparently you do, so that's a thing. What else? We discovered electricity a couple hundred years ago, we're suffering from overpopulation in a lot of places, and we just got a black president. Any of that helpful?" He grinned awkwardly. "I'm Hiro, by the way. Hiro Toriyama."

The only thing that Nashyll's mind really grabbed onto was the bit about "dragons shouldn't exist." Well, of course that's the sort of place she'd end up in while stuck in dragon form.
She didn't take the time to answer about how she was speaking to him. The dragon looked back down streetward. It didn't seem likely that a little child would really be of much use
'Find your parents. Find a safe place.'
Even with her awkward moments, her body flowed smoothly as she dashed to the edge. She hesitated only a moment - any longer, and she might have chickened out - before leaping boldly from the edge and spreading her wings.

((Yoink.))
While efforts were being made to capture the dragon, the vehicle holding Magnus took him off to a more properly secured prison. Just as before, they were none too nice about transfering him from one to the next, seemingly making a point to force him to be half-dragged.
The took him down a hall, passing by both attentive security and hectic offices. Hardly anyone glanced their way, even those past in the hall, though there was one young woman who stared out the window as Magnus was brought by. She had the distinct look of an intern who was in over her head: large, startled eyes behind round glasses, mousy brown hair, and a dress suit that was somehow both over- and under-professional.
Magnus was taken to another bright room with magic-blocking sigils. This one at least had a small, thick window though, protected against magic and physical strikes alike.
It didn't take long for the light to flicker. Nothing else lost any potency - locks remained in place, computers kept running, all was fine, but the lights around the building flickered, and in many of the cells the lights failed. Magnus' cell was one such, suddenly cast into darkness with only faint lighting for the eyes to adjust to. But, his was the only cell in which a soft, sweet voice could be heard saying:
"The morning rises with the rose
The man sets fire to his clothes
And so he sparkles snowy white
And ready now for his next fight
What could ever stand to him?
Perhaps the dark that lurks within."

"Go home? Screw that!" He ran off the ledge after the dragon. "YOLOOO!!" He managed just to grab onto the beast's hind-quarters and held on for dear life. "WOOOOO!!!" he screamed. "THIS IS AWESOME!! AND PAINFUL!" While the dragon's scales offered great grip, they also bumped and chaffed something fierce.
((Actually, her scales are pretty smooth for the most part. ^^))
Nashyll had just enough time to halfway note that attempting to fly this time was even harder than the previous before she felt the kid smack into her and latch on. The sudden shift in weight - nevermind the shouting - caused her to careen. She immediately tried to change herself to recover, only to remember that she couldn't do that now when nothing happened.
It seemed that her body already had an idea of what it could do, though. The dragon twisted as she plummeted with the child. She moved to right herself, and at the same time, instinct made her wrap her tail around the boy to keep him from falling. In moments, she was flying between towers - actually flying, not just sloppily gliding down - with the child safely seated above her shoulders in a natural slight nook in her spine and no idea how what she'd just done had happened.
Nashyll would have scolded the kid, but her mind was to busy trying to determine how she'd done any of that and how to maintain flight. Thinking about it only seemed to make it difficult, unfortunately.
