It's time for an art adventure! Challenge yourself to draw something new and unexpected -- get character art in return that may be in surprising new styles!

In a trade like this, artists post information about a character (or characters!) that they would like drawn. At the end of the sign up period, all entrants are sent a randomly selected name. Each entrant draws one of the characters that their assigned person submitted, and then on a certain day, you all exchange what you drew! Pretty cool right!? Everyone gets to have some fun, and get some cool new character art in the process.


RULES

This event is for artists. Artists of all skill levels are welcome! However, if you have never drawn before, only drawn a few times, or don't consider yourself to be an artist in any way, this event may not be for you.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY OCTOBER 31ST
ALL ART MUST BE SENT BY JANUARY 5TH

PLEASE BE CERTAIN YOU CAN COMPLETE YOUR ASSIGNED PIECE IN THE TIME ALLOWED. If you're not sure, just play it safe and don't enter. We do two art trades every year, so if you're not positive you can complete this one, try for the next one instead.

If you do not turn your art trade piece in, you will be asked to sit out the next art trade on the RPR. Failure to turn your piece in in two art trades may lead you to be banned from the art trade. The RPR commissions replacement art when a piece is not turned in to someone who DID complete their assignment, and we don't have an infinite budget for this.

Artists are NOT required to include a background in their drawing, but you can include a suggestion with your entry, should the artist that gets your character feel up to drawing it.

Only entries drawn by you, digital or scanned, are acceptable. Please do not submit photomanipulations or images created with doll makers.

Any artist caught passing off traced or stolen artwork as their own will be banned from the trade - and any other art-based events or contests run by the RPR - for life.

When entries are due, all artists must post them on the art trade thread--no exceptions.

Please keep in mind that pairings are random. You may be asked to draw a type of character that you don't normally -- for example, if you normally don't draw anthropomorphic characters, you may have to challenge yourself to make your best attempt at something outside your comfort zone! However, you will never be asked to draw an image with a rating above PG13 in this trade.

All entrants must link to three recent examples of their artwork when joining.

If you are a devotee, you may still enter into the dabbler category if you wish.

In the past, some people have tried to join as a devotee even though they had never drawn before, because they planned to "work really hard" on their trade piece. Please be realistic: one time effort is not equivalent to years of practice. Both dabblers and devotees are asked to put their best effort into their trade pieces.

Keep in mind that the art you are receiving is a gift. Whoever got your character put a lot of time and effort into the drawing, so if it's not exactly right, please don't be angry or upset! This contest is meant to be fun for everybody.

Brief physical description of the character: Brae is average height with a thinner build. His hair is brown, medium length/growing out and generally parted to his right and his eyes are blue. He usually has a grin on his face and he loves striped clothing and hats (page boy hats, baseball caps which are usually worn backwards and beanies). His glasses are optional, he wears them about as much as his contacts. In depth description such as piercings, scars and tattoos are on his page as well as plenty of reference.
Suggested environments: He works in his family's comic shop and lives upstairs in an apartment. So either down in the shop maybe by or behind the register or upstairs on the red cushy couch.
Anything else we need to know: Brae is very attached to his identical twin. If you're feeling wily you could draw them together. It's cool if you like copy and paste the same picture and just change the minor details
Also when they're feeling particularly demony, their eyes go full black. You could have fun with that as well.

Brief physical description of the character: Marle is a tall and broad-framed badger-squirrel hybrid in her middle age with very large claws. She is a healer and herbalist. Her outfit isn't set in stone by any means--she isn't wealthy so she's likely to be seen in more humble attire. Though she often dresses androgynous, skirts are fine!

Brief physical description of the character: Tall, healthy curvaceous figure, blond hair that reaches past her shoulders, blue eyes, pale but youthful complexion, oval face shape, usually wears dark robes over a shirt and breeches with sturdy boots. Can be drawn in a feminine sultry outfit if so desired.
Suggested environments: Sci-Fi, a space ship, in the midst of a battle.

Personality: Brash, loud mouthed, perverted, loves to pick a fight, demeaning towards anyone smaller than her, especially men
Brief physical description of the character: Very tall and heavy with muscle. She is half giantess and is constantly in a brawl, arena fight or otherwise working on herself physically. She has blond hair that doesn't quite reach her shoulders with green blue eyes. Her physique is powerful with thick muscle, but carrying enough femininity in her hips and chest to be considered a woman by all means. She wears minimal armor and clothing in casual situations, but full armor during battles. Cold does not bother her at all.
Suggested environments: Nordic mountains, arena pits, midst of a bloody fight
Anything else we need to know: She's the only character you're welcome to draw in an adult setting. Please only highlight if you consider drawing her in one: She is demeaning to her partners overall and a selfish lover. While preferring at the very least tall sturdy men, she occasionally takes on a much smaller partner for the night. Likely she's intoxicated during everything.

Personality: Highly energetic and kind. She doesn't like to sit still and is constantly involved with what goes on around her. She's almost annoyingly friendly and cares a little too much about things. Her focus is mainly on the present, she doesn't linger in the past or frets about the future too much.
Brief physical description of the character: She's anthropomorphic with a mostly llama body and a unicorn horn. She prefers dresses and tunics, but will wear jeans and prefers long sleeveless tops. Her neck fur and tail fur is a pastel red with orange streaks, her body fur is a dark gray with red/orange flecks, and her face, lower legs and lower arms are a soft brown. She has hands and fingers but hooves as feet. (See images on her profile for more references.)
Suggested environments: Anything modern fantasy. She lives in a bizarre world where there are flying teapots that people keep as pets, for example. You can go nuts with that, just keep it fun and interesting, not dark or dangerous.

Personality: Excitable and to some a bit of a smartass. He's efficient with what he does and gets irked when things don't go as fast and efficient as he wants them to. He enjoys company and when not spending time with others he maintains a link to the internet and crawls every available data resource, storing and discarding whatever info he deems necessary.
Brief physical description of the character: He is a three feet tall, four feet long gryphon with bird claws and feline hind legs, short wings and a fluffy tail. His colors are black and orange. (See image on his profile for a reference.)

Brief physical description of the character: She stands 6feet 5 inches and her horns go beyond that. She has a curved body that is a lovely shade of purple. Her eyes are red like the fire she wields. Her long black hair is partly braided in the back. She wears engraved armor and a long loin cloth.

Brief physical description of the character: Pure bred snow leopard, the femme was as cold as her species' namesake, and it wasn't just her ice blue eyes. Dressed for the road in a heavy cloak of white now and a dress made of white lace, she gives off the air of someone who might cut you down where you stood for stepping the wrong way. A long scarlet red braid severely trails down her back, tied off at the end with a ribbon, expertly knotted.
Suggested environments: Dungeon, Operating Room, Skulking in the Shadows, anywhere that might suggest horrible things were going to happen. After all, everyone loves a villain.

Species: Wizard.
Gender: Male.
Personality: David is a quiet and cautious boy. He hates to be dirty and absolutely refuses to be rude to others even if they are rude to him first. He won't approach you if he doesn't know you, his fears having an unhealthy grip on his mind. David has a hard time opening up to someone and doesn't trust easily, his past filled with pain and misery at every corner. From time to time he can have an adventurous streak where he wants to explore and make new friends, but it's very rare and far in between.
Brief physical description of the character: David is extremely skinny due to malnutrition. He isn't as tall nor does he weigh as much as other seven year olds, only coming to about 3'6" and 137.5lbs. David's skin tone is usually a very sickly color, and matched with his messy and constantly dirty blond hair he looks like a homeless child. Which isn't far from the truth. He usually wears an extremely worn red sweater that is two sizes too big for him and a pair of jeans with rips in the knees and hems, the hems falling just above his bare feet.
Suggested environments: A cage, maybe a forest, a slave auction, in a tree.
Anything else we need to know: David was sold as a child slave when he was little so he grew up in captivity, as a result he has scars all across his skin. Some of them are older and very faint while others are fresh and still bleeding. The most pronounced scar he has are the scars on the tops of his feet from whips and a small star scar on the top of his left hand.

Character Name: Rylee Kriton

Species: Half-Mermaid/ Half-Human
Gender: Female
Personality: Rylee is a very bubbly person with AD/HD, never staying on one topic too long or in one place. She doesn't like to be ignored, and hates it even more if you treat her like a child. She'll do anything for attention, bordering on the insane. She's a honest person, telling you the truth even if you would rather not have it. In addition, she is also dyslexic and is very sensitive about it.
Brief physical description of the character: Her green hair is cut in a short pixie cut with bright blue low-lights and neon green highlights. She is tall and skinny, her eyes a bright violet against her pale skin. The only tattoo's on her body are a trident on the inside of her right forearm, and a trident on her left hip.
Suggested environments: Near a shipwreck, working as a lifeguard, just chilling in a hammock.
Anything else we need to know: She can be drawn in either her mermaid or human form, the only difference being that in her mermaid form she had gills on her ribs. In her human form, she walks kind of pigeon toed. She also carries around a small golden coin about the size of a half-dollar with a wave crest on it.

I've been drawan for years (drawan relatively seriously for the past twelve to thirteen years), and even have had a thread up on the site for commissions and adopts that have done well in my time here. All of my character profiles on here also showcase all of my art in how I imagine my characters to look like as well.

Gender: Preferred is female
Personality: Spontaneous, video game loving, and usually lives each day to her fullest.
Brief physical description of the character: Ei usually stands at 5'3", has umber skin, short silver hair that feathers out just above her shoulders, golden eyes with black sclera, and rarely has a frown or a look of anger on her face. Her preferred form generally has wings that sprout from her back, and they are generally an icy white with charcoal spatterings around the tips. Ei loves the colour blue, and usually wears variants of it in formal attire. In casual attire, she wears backless clothing that allow for her wings to remain present.
Suggested environments: Sky, plateau, mountainous.
Anything else we need to know: Ei has NO scars! Her shapeshifting ability and rapid regeneration prevent them from being a thing in her biology!

Character Name: Felvalian "Vale" Azmus

Personality: Quiet, reserved, methodical, calculating, speaks only when necessary, mysterious... to a degree?
Brief physical description of the character: Valian is 6'2", has icy white hair, more of a caramel skin tone, and teal eyes. Most of the time, Vale prefers leather armor as opposed to iron or steel armours. Vale's favourite colours are definitely more along the earthy kind of spectrum with some reds within, and his clothing choices will definitely represent that. Not present in the references I have made of Valian, however, are the facts that there is a small part of the tip of his right ear that is missing (not even a centimetre of cartilage is gone), and that he has a small, inch long scar under his left eye that is slightly diagonal from nose to cheek.
Suggested environments: Forested, medieval fantasy city / kingdom, camping.
Anything else we need to know: In his RPR profile, there is an image that I have uploaded that shows him with a human variant and with more modern clothes. It is totally fine by me if you decide to draw Vale that way instead.

If you've listed more than one character, is it okay for your characters to be drawn together if the artist wants?

Yes.

Vale and Ei were going to be my Artists at the Ready companions, and I developed some of their relationship in my planning before I had to drop out of the competition for personal reasons and time constraints. They get along relatively... okay. Ei's spontaneity rubs Vale the wrong way sometimes, but he's good about keeping the team that he's on grounded and alert.

Vale and Ei are opposites and are NOT romantically involved in the slightest. At best, their relationship is semi-familial.

Vale is too grounded and down to earth while Ei is unpredictable and takes to the freedom of the skies.

Character Name: Echo

Species: Human originally, now is human mixed with Dragon and feline

Gender: Female

Personality: Timid, shy, frightful, polite, kind, sweet, basic 'quiet shy type'

Brief physical description of the character: Emerald green mid back length hair and fur, porcelain skin, anthro legs with scales on the tops of feet, thighs and backs of calves (Not covering, mixed in with the fur), Long tail coated with fur and dotted with patches of scales, sort of 'spike' tip with three barbs of a sort, Large plush ears on sides of head with fluffy green fur similar to a type of feline's, thin enough to show ribs but not look sickly, 'cosmic' style eyes with a mixture of blue, green, and purple hues, small fangs, scales covering hips to just beneath her rubs (None on her middle stomach area), Scales over her forearms nearly covering from wrist to elbow over the tops of arm, thin streak of regular flesh is on the bottom side of each arm, she's 5'4" and missing her left eye (Can be replaced with glass one to match current) She is also blind and tends to not focus on any one thing.

Suggested environments: Library, garden, harem pen, really anywhere in thge Golden Tether's setting of Furcadia

Anything else we need to know: Just to be sure it's obvious Echo is blind, she can have her eyes covered with wrappings if it is easier to draw, or if not she can be seen with her left eye empty and right eye unfocused on one specific thing, if you decide to give her a glass eye it matches her usual one but tends to not move properly so it would likely be staring forward directly regardless of where her real eye points. I know is' confusing and difficult I'm sorry If anyone has a question before names are assigned shoot me a PM I'm glad to answer anything!
I would also like to add if it is wanted (Or for some likely easier) to draw her 'pre-accident' that's totally fine! She would be a normal human with no shoes on, clothing the same as on her RPR shows, she would have both eyes at that time but still be blind, and her hair would be platinum blonde/nearly white and she would be less timid looking

Personality: Energetic, excitable, fun loving, childish, easily entertained, think the weird kid with too much time on her hands

Brief physical description of the character: Anthro Feline, grey fur with serval 'spots' and black stripes, blonde shoulder-mid back length hair, exceptionally long tail, large leathery/furred wings, ears exceptionally large as well giving her a more 'youthful' look

Suggested environments: Outdoors usually or in a bedchamber sleeping on a pile of pillows, she's simple and really can be found wherever

Piercings seen in pictures. Tail has a mouth with fangs, blue tongue and white glowing eyes. Dresses in lavish, dark harem style pants and lots of gold.
Suggested environments: Nothing modern. Surrounded by plush cushions or something oppulant.

He has dark chocolate fur with a beautiful blonde mane and tail, with the same hued feathering across his forearms and at the back of his shins. He dresses himself in a concoction between Egyptian and Persian royalty, preferring style over practicality. His eyes are a deep Roman gold, sharp and intelligent.

Gender: Cisgendered male.
Personality: Brash, loud, in-your-face, a bit vulgar.
Brief physical description of the character: Lupercus is extremely top heavy, with massive muscular forearms and shorter, but still strong hind-legs; he is capable of being both in a quad stance and in an anthro stance. Huge paws house long, brutal talons. He is covered in short, velvet fur much like that of a seal's, which is marked with stripes from white, to light blue, to royal blue. He has a dog-like face which has two sets of eyes, both bright blue with no pupils and two mouths, one on top of the other, filled with shark teeth. Down his neck he has bio-luminescent ducts which pour out a bright blue fog and the appropriate shark fins across his body.
Suggested environments: Underwater, deep abyss.

Personality: Very confident, overpowering. Often has an evil smirk plastered on her lips.
Brief physical description of the character: Detailed descriptions of her three forms are available on her RPR. Her 'usual' form that she is most seen in is a black wolf, with royal blue hair. Her eyes, in all forms, have no iris and are silver. I am hoping to get art of her demonic form, but I'm happy with any art! (My reference for her demonic forms would be Lana Parrilla)
Suggested environments: If in her wolf form, likely a tavern setting (nothing past 1800s setting) If in demonic form, a dungeon or other dark setting. If in her 'true' form (it's like a mermaid) then underwater, of course (or on a beach)
Anything else we need to know: While Morgana is a sadistic character, she does have her moments of softness. So I am open to more somber artwork of her (particularly in her true form)

Brief physical description of the character: Thin and lithe, with golden specks throughout nose, neck/chest, and stomach. Hip-length straight pale blonde hair. (reference image available on RPR)
Suggested environments: For current-day Amen, perhaps silk curtains or a bar where she is serving. For Queen Amenset, Egyptian palace surroundings are ideal.
Anything else we need to know: Her personalities of now versus then greatly differ, so artists have plenty of emotional range depending on what time they wish to draw her in. Be it during her risky Queen days, her current slave days, or somewhere in between. No modern settings.

Personality: Clumsy and soft-spoken unless angered. Can be quite mischievous if allowed.
Brief physical description of the character: Plenty of reference images on her RPR. In her mermaid form, her skin is very coppery and shiny. Her tail is a deep blue-green, with large, whispy fins. There are also smaller fins on either hip.
Suggested environments: Hiding among ships, finding treasures on the ocean floor. Lots of possibilities for her mermaid form, which is what I'm aiming for art for. If in her human form, maybe a medieval town.
Anything else we need to know: She becomes a mermaid against her will if she comes into contact with water. Also, no modern settings.

Personality: He is cunning and sly. But also cantankerous and cynical. He is very difficult to actually offend or irritate. He gets bored easily. He is also domineering and pompous. (Basically- tl;dr- He's a jerk.)
Brief physical description of the character: Short little thing- 5'3", dark skin, white hair, bright blue eyes, has facial piercings. He's a purty guy. (Really, his website is super easy to read and navigate and there's 34839 my artworks on there of him. Just glance it over and go to town.)
Suggested environments: I actually prefer not to have a background. So.. you got lucky.
Anything else we need to know: Mmm, nope. His site is pretty detailed and self-explanatory.
