“Fire! Fire at the Big Top!” faintly came to Roweena’s ears but she turned over.
“Fire! Fire at the Big top! Everyone out to help fight the blaze!” was heard and Roweena was now awake and alert.

“This better not be some practical joke to alleviate the tension that has been growing ….” She muttered as she climbed out of bed and yanked a pair of sneakers on.
Once outside Roweena screamed in total fright and began to run towards the Big Top where the tent that belongs to her parents was.
“Mom! Dad!”

“Rose! They are gone. There was no chance for them nor the next 3 tents. Girl, go get the animals.” The strong man spoke gruffly as he pulled her away and shoved her towards another man who grabbed her arm.
Roweena could do nothing but to obey. She keep an eye on the flames which must be at least 10 if not 15 feet above the Big Top.

Several hours later….
The strong man or Pat and the other man or Tom stood next to Roweena as the tears flowed down her face as she watched the fire department looked over the Big Top and surrounding areas that were burnt down.
The owner, Brad Dunny came over to speak in a low voice.
“Sorry about your loss, Rose but we are needed at the office. Come. There is nothing more here that anyone can do.”
The group walked over to where the office trailer was. Several officers were standing there looking at a letter.
“If this is true, then we can allow those of you who wish to leave, to leave. I have officers starting the investigation. It shouldn’t take more than several days.” The officer spoke to Brad who simply nodded.

Several days later…

Roweena had eaten next to nothing and not slept either during those three days. She was like in a dream world. She would not commit to anything in her life but deep down inside her heart she knew that she would have to soon. Tom saw to Flame during this time.
Suddenly a knock on the door alerted her to someone at the door.
“Come in.” was her simply glum reply.
“Roweena, it’s Brad and the man from the insurance company. May we come in?” brad asked.
“Sure why not. There is nothing stopping you.” Roweena spoke from the small sofa.
The men came in and stood before Roweena.
“I heard that the tent that was the closest to the Big Top was your parents and that it was between Clyde’s and the Big Top. There was no way to save them according to the initial reports. I’m extremely sorry of your horrid double loss.
I can see that you are totally devastated so I’ll make this short. In the office is your parent’s safe which is the only thing that survived. I only hope that you know the combination.” The man spoke in a soft voice.
Roweena nodded.
“In about a month checks will be sent to you because you were the one that they named as beneficiary. Your grandmother died several months ago. She named you as her beneficiary. You may have that check.” He took the envelope out of his breast coat pocket and handed it to Roweena who took it.
“The second envelope is for you to fill out so that I can send you your funds.” He spoke again then looked at Brad.
“Roweena, you have 15 minutes to get dressed and be at the office for an important meeting. I expect you to be there or Tom will come and get you. Understood?” Brad spoke sternly.
Roweena stood up as she nodded.
“I will be there, Brad. Thank you for the check, sir. I’ll fill out the form and give it to Brad. “

Two weeks later…..
Roweena was at a land auction. She was the only one it seems that was interested in a specific property. The beginning bid was getting lower and lower. Suddenly she stuck up her hand card for agree to the bid. She had the money in cash which was the rule. No one even was allowed in if they could not prove that they had the money in the bank.
She needed to be ready to leave within the hour for she needed to meet the train. Brad was bringing Flame and some girl that she agreed to take in. At least the girl would keep her busy.
Suddenly, the gavel hit the podium and she had the winning bid. She hurried over to the table and filled out the forms before she headed out to the train.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

The girl was twenty-two but she was short and thin, some would say stunted. It had taken some time before Brad could get her onto the train. It was only when he told her that if she didn't get on he and her family would leave without her as they couldn't keep the train from there forever. The girl had crouched inside the cage with her 'family'. The animals were a wonder to behold, elephants - five of them - all tiny miniature versions of the well known circus staple. The four adult females came no higher than four feet at the shoulder and the little calf was just under a foot tall, small enough to be carried if he only he wasn't so heavy.

Brad had tried talking to the girl who was called Samantha or Sam, with mixed results. She didn't speak much English and what she did speak sounded like a lot of nonsense and noise. She wouldn't leave the elephants that had come with her. The animals had to be chained and caged so they could ride safely on the train. It wasn't an ideal situation but no one had mentioned that they were be elephants miniature or otherwise, only the girl. The elephants for their part were not pleased to be joining the troupe and they trumpeted frantically in their makeshift cage.

"Bruh'aah, Brad, What this?" the girl asked, the first try at the man's name came out as a elephant-like squeal.

"That's straw," the man said as the girl held up a fistful of the stiff dry plant.

"Sah? Straw?" she said trying the word out.

The girl nibbled on the straw then spat it out.

"Bad," she said dropping the piece she'd been sampling.

"You're not supposed to eat it. Not even your friends are eating it," Brad said gesturing to the restless elephants.

The girl looked behind her at her mother, aunts, sister and nephew. The calf, the only male, was holding a tuft of straw in his trunk and waving it around. The girl made a squeak at the calf and he came up to her as close as the chain around his ankle and his mother's protective trunk would allow. The girl scuttled closer so the baby could reach her better and wrapped her right arm around the baby's head. The infant wrapped his trunk around his aunt's head and rumbled low. The girl slid her arm off the calf's head and he let slid his trunk off hers. Before getting up onto her knees to better reach the adults and comfort them in the same way.

"If I didn't know better I'd have thought you two were going to wrestle, grabbing each other like that," a voice said. "No. He's too little for that," the girl replied to the voice in her native tongue. Brad stared as the girl conversed in squeals and grunts to Flame's whinny.

"I think you'd go easy on him, since he's so little," the horse said, "if you were to wrestle. I've seen some of your kind wrestle tigers before many people came to see it."

The girl did not reply to the horse instead she checked to see that her family was calmed. Sam slipped out of the cage and began to poke around in boxes at what Brad had packed.

"What this?" she asked pulling something out of a box.

"A costume, put it back," the man told her.

The girl looked puzzled.

"They're clothes," the strong man said pointing at his own clothes and then at hers, "You need to sit down and stay still. It's not safe climb around inside a moving train," he warned the girl.

The girl would have ignored the man, but a call from her mother brought her back down and into the elephant cage again. The girl sat down in the straw beside her mother and listened to the noise of the train. The sounds of the train had been frightening at first but after so many hours and nothing happening to them they roar of the wheels, the rumble of the cars and the fact that the floor was constantly moving mostly became a non-issue for the girl. Her family was still on edge about it all but they couldn't do anything about it and the girl herself had explained as best she could that the train would not hurt them. They were in a sense like a bug floating on a leaf in a pond, mostly safe. The train arrived at last and everyone had to get off.

The elephants who had been chained separately inside their cage were now chain together so they could walk in a line. Sam explained why this was a bad idea and after much arguing the animals were allowed to walk without the chains as long as they kept together and stayed with the group. The girl, the people called her Sam (the elephants had another name for her), she kept the herd together easily and only had to help keep the baby in line once in a while before the people stopped suggesting they move the elephants another way. The girl was wary of walking outside with such a small herd, there were only six of them counting her. The men and other people from the train didn't count as they were not part of the herd. Sam raised her head and slowly stood up tall on her two feet to sniff at the air.

"Bird. Uherh, no big bad. No tiger. No shark. .... No oh shun," she announced as she followed Brad.

"Ocean. No ocean," he corrected her.

"No ocean," she replied.

In front of her sprawled the train station. It was just as smelly and loud as the first one she'd been at and the last one, but it was familiar at least. The herd was not impressed. "Look, people box," Sam said loudly pointing at a tall building.

Roweena was happy to have the old farm. So what if it was said to be haunted. So what if it was overgrown and the pond had scum all over it. The house needed to be fixed up which didn't bother Roweena either for she had her RV. She nervously wrote out the largest check she ever written in her life and signed the paperwork. She received her keys and could move in right away. That was something to her favor because she would soon have Flame. The last week was really hard as she woke up to a new life of not being in a circus. She began to miss her old life and friends.

Roweena was used to a lot of excercise and her body began to hurt from not using it. She needed to get back into doing something. Anything was better than nothing. Work will solve a lot of problems and she would eventually find some sort of a job to bring money in. She had plenty for now with four large insurance checks. Paying all that money in was worth it.

She checked her watch and saw that she had time to stop by the utility office to get the utilitiies turned on. She was given a bit of a hassle but with a lot of persuasion and the fact that she bought the old Hendrick's farm, she was able to get a crew out there tomorrow to check into the utilities lines. The town was small and as small towns were known to be knowing everyone and everything about everyone, the two clerks wanted to know everything that Roweena knew about the place. Roweena smiled as she told them that she had to meet the train so that she could get her horse off of it, their eyes widen in surprise.

The train station was just a half of a block away from the post office so Roweena simply walked to the station to wait for the train to come in. People started to mingle around the station in minutes. They began to talk in low tones in small groups while trying to steal glances at the 'girl who bought up the old Hendrick's farm'. Hopefully, she woudn't have the trouble that.... the person would be hushed quickly and the subject was turned to anything else.
Roweena waited patiently in one of her ballet poses.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

Flame walked obediently along side Brad. People stared at the horse a little but most stared at the little elephants that followed behind and at the young woman with hair like yarn that ambled along with the herd, now again on all fours. Now and then the girl would stand up and look around but mostly she keep low at eye level to her family. The elephants trumpeted and flapped their ears as they walked nervously along side the now still train. Sam raised her right arm and touched her family members one after the other every so often and they touched each other and her with their trunks.

The little elephants were a sight four short gray and brown round figures following behind a horse and man, and a tiny little elephant scampering ahead or lagging behind the group. Children squealed in delight and pointed at the animals. Many excited and hushed cries from all ages of, "Look it, look it," washed over the herd as they followed Brad and Flame. Sam had been told they were going to meet her new boss, Rose. The girl had gotten Rose's scent from the packed clothes which she had passed around to the herd so they would be familiar with the new boss too.

"There she is," Brad said at last, "There's Rose."

Sam stared at the human woman standing in front of them and tilted her head to the side in wonder. This Rose was odd, she did not stand like the others, the way Sam had been told was the correct way to stand. The girl rose from her crouched position amid the herd and slowly walked toward Rose with her right arm raised up high near her face as if she had a trunk. The girl's intent was to wrap her arm around the woman's head as her elephants did when greeting or comforting each other. Sam wanted her new boss to know she was a good friendly elephant so she'd gone with the greeting gesture that came most naturally to her.

"This is Sam, Samantha, and her .... elephants. They came together," Brad told Rose.

Roweena or Rose as her circus family called her was leaning against the wall while reading instructions to the farm. she heard Flame's eager whinney and she looked up with a warm smile then in surprise then in astonishment as Brad broughtthe small group towards her.

What had astonished her were the smallest elephants that she had ever seen in her life as well as the expected girl. She frowned as she walked up to Brad.

"Brad, just in the name of Hades do you think that you are doing bringing me these elephants? Where am I to put them? House them? Feed them? You know very well that the last time we talked that I was still looking for a home to house Flame, Sam and myself." she spoke quietly but yet there a was a touch of anger in her voice.

Flame being the intelligent horse that he was came right up to Rose then nuzzled her as a greeting.

*Don't worry Gahua. Rose is not angry at us. Brad is the one she is angry with. She is an animal lover and I trust her to find a place for all of us. I am sure that it will be a nice place too.* Flame spoke encouragingly to her.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

Sam tried to wrap her arm around Rose's face if the woman would stay still and let her, sliding it off after a short time. *Your girl is very short. I think that will help us feel comfortable here,* the girl rumbled in reply to the horse.

"Elephants stay with me," the girl said firmly to Rose in English, "Boss no worry."

"Try explaining to her that she can't have her elephants," Brad suggested to Rose.

"They're a package deal. She keeps them in line pretty well. See, they're not leashed or anything but they follow her and don't wander all over the place. Sam takes care of them. She says they're her family. How do you tell a kid she has to leave her family behind?" the man said.

*What are Brae'aah and Ther'Oom saying, Gahua?* Sam's mother, Arua grunted.

*I told them the herd will stay together. These humans do not believe I am an elephant until I explain it to them. I will ask if we are leaving this loud stinky place soon.* Sam gurgled back at the brown elephant.

"Boss, we go now? We go away home, Yes?" Sam asked Rose.

"We need to load the lugage from the train into the RV. I don't know if the elephants will fit in the RV with everything else or if they'll go in at all after the train ride. They weren't too happy traveling by rail," Brad said.

Rose stood there silently petting Flame. She simply could not believe that she now had 5 elephants to house and feed somehow.
Rose could not say anymore at this time for she wanted to get out of the crowd as quickly as possible. She turned to the girl and spoke gently as she caressed her cheek with her hand.
‘Sam, I need your help. I do not know any of these people so I need you to have your family come here and stand close to me. Keep the baby on the inside so he won’t get hurt by overeager children wanting to pet them.
Can your family walk about 20 miles? Do you understand how far that is?” she asked as she watched Brad take the luggage out of the train.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

Thu, the baby elephant, was behaving himself by sticking close to his mother, Wooa. Sam understood most of Rose's words but didn't understand why she was saying them. Of course the herd would stay close together and the baby would in the middle, that was how the herd always traveled. Sam let out a low grumble as she called to her family, *The new boss says to stay close to her. We will walk what sounds like a long way. I do not think it can be much farther than we have walked before, but this is a new place and we do not know what all lives here. Thu,* the girl directed her noises at the baby, *You will say close to your mother or Grandmother, no wandering for any reason. This may be dangerous territory we are walking through. We are leaving the train so it's noise and stink will no longer protect us from those that would eat us.*

"Ok,Brad. Here is the deal. We load up the RV. You drive the RV and be last in line. I will ride Flame. Sam will keep the herd together in the middle. It is about 20 miles from here to the farm that I bought. Stay here with everything while I go and get the RV.....When I get back I want to get out of here as quickly as possible. Please saddle up Flame for me...I guess that is it for the moment. I am going to bring up a bit of you know what which should clear up things. I'll be back shortly." Rose took off at a jog and held her I pad close to her as she jog.

She arrived at the parking lot and quickly got into the RV. She drove the half block and pulled into the station. She made sure that all but 1 door was locked. She began to think stormy thoughts which was very easy in her mood that she had at the moment.

"Sam! Come here now, please." she called out as she walked towards Brad and Flame.
"Ssm, It is going to storm for a bit. Tell your family not to worry but follow me closely. I will lead to the farm but to get there we must walk as fast as we can. Brad and I will put the trunks in the RV and we will leave. Get your family ready to go now." Rose picked up the first trunk and carried it over to the RV.

Some man came over and spoke with a smirk.
"Now let me carry that heavy trunk, miss."

"I honestly doubt that you can but I am willing to allow you to try while I get the next one." Rose spoke sweetly as she sat the trunk down.

"Rose, don't be teasing the man." Brad scolded as he carried two trunks to the RV.
"He asked if he could help and I am just allowing him to hlp is all." Rose spoke as she smiled mischeiviously.

Soon all but the llast trunk was inside the RV. It was raining by now and people were hurrying away. The man was puzzled as to how a mere female could lift such a heavy trunk when he- a strong farmer and ex- Marine- could not lift it.

"Hate to spoil your attempt, mister but it is raining and these old bones want out of the rain. Have a good day." Brad spoke gruffly as Rose mounted up on Flame with ease. She checked the ground and called out to Brad

"No messes! Let's move out! Sam, let's get moving now." Rose spoke as she allowed the clouds darken even more as she left, allowing Sam to follow as if it was a routine way of traveling with the miniature herd.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

*We follow Flame. The growling box will follow us. We must hurry* Sam told the herd.

The herd followed Sam into position. Little Thu stayed close sandwiched between his mother and grandmother. The elephants were not bothered by the rain or the dark clouds over head. *Why does Ther'Oom want us to hurry?* Arura asked.

*The trees are not bending and we are not being hunted* Sam's Aunt Nia pointed out.

*Ther'Oom has her reasons. These people always have a reason for the strange things they do. We will be at our new home soon, maybe she is anxious to return there so we may rest.* Sam replied as she coaxed the herd to move quickly.

The elephants could walk at a quick fifteen miles per hour if they needed to but most of the time they were quite slow. The herd was faster than their larger African and Asian cousins since their smaller size made them easier prey but they were still elephants and elephants do not hurry when they have no reason to.

Sam dropped down to a crouch and butted the adult elephants with her head and side to hurry them along. This was always the difficult part of their new life, getting the herd to move as quickly as the boss wanted.

*There will be water where we are going. Water that is not falling from the sky. And nice things to eat,* Sam told her sister and nephew as she scurried ahead of them a few paces to encourage them to walk faster.

No elephant likes to be apart from her herd so the girl didn't go very far ahead before falling back to join them again. The growl of the RV behind them keep them from stopping or slowing down but none of the elephants were moving as fast as Sam thought they should. Since they were staying between Flame and the RV she didn't try to scare them into moving faster, fearing they might upset Rose if they got ahead of her and Flame.

"Boss Rose, Ne home have trees. Trees have nice food?" the girl called to the rider in front of her, "We rest there, yes? Drink and eat?"
Roweena Rose Merriwe (played anonymously) Topic Starter

"Sam, I have not been there but I saw pictures of the land. It has many trees, a lot of grasses and your family will have their own pond. I will have to buy more food but I have some banannas and oranges if you want a treat. In fact, if we hurry up and get there more quickly, I might even find some sugar cubes for everyone. But we need to move faster because I am starting to get a bit cold and don't want to get sick." Rose spoke softly to the young girl.
"Also the sooner we get there, the sooner that you will get the oranges and bananas."

Rose had been riding for about an hour and knew that the farm should be not to terrific far now. Or at least it shouldn't be. She openned her I pad and looked up her land. They were very close indeed. In fact, they were almost to the edge of their property.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

"Eat at home," Same said as she urged the herd onward.

*Do you smell the water yet?* Thu asked the girl in babyish squeals.

*No,* Sam grunted annoyed that she could not smell or hear as well as her family could, though her eye sight was much keener for what little good that was. An elephant saw with their trunk more than their eyes. Their old matriah had led them for many years after going blind before her death.

Sam was tempted to scare the herd to make them speed up more but as she was readying to imitate a tiger's snarl caught the faint scent of water, not the rain, but water from the ground.

*Hurry now, to the trees and the pond,* she called to her family as she rose onto her feet and came up closer to Flame.

*What is the fuss? Are you tired already?" her sister Woona teased.

A large sign was standing at the gate which was the clue that they had arrived at the Homestead. Rose turned into the drive, dismounted flame and unlocked the gate. She walked forward to unlock the second gate. She turned to Sam.

"Sam. Tell you family to never touch the inside gate. I will have it electrified and if someone touches, it might mean death for that someone. Under no circumstances are you or your family to touch this fence. Tell your family then go inside. Understand?" ROse couldn't for sure know that the elephant girl understood but she certianly hoped so.

Flame went inside the second gate to nibble on some fresh grass along the side of the overgrown driveway. Rose walked back to the RV.

"Well, Brad.... this is my home sweet home and hopefully for Sam and her family as well. Follow them through and at the end of the drive is a garage that is attachedto a house. I am going to take care of Flame. There shouldd be a barn close by. Elephants are smart creatures and most likely can find the pond easily. I am only worried that the pond will be stagnant. I hope not." Rose spoke softly in a worried voice.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

Sam listened closely to Rose's words and translated them as best she could to the animals, *The thing that opens, the one on the inside, it hurts. Do not touch it.*

*A thick tree would bring it down,* her aunt Who-wan replied.

*There is not reason to do that,* Sam told her, *There are trees here, a pond, and food.*

*We will see. Why must we always be kept in these 'cages'?* came from Arua.

*It is to keep safe, Mother. It .... these people are not as strong as us and while I have not seen any tigers since we were separated from Nyla, we do not know what dangers they have here. They may need cage walls that hurt in this place.*

*Good riddance to her,* the herd trumpeted as one when the tigress' name was mentioned.

Sam huffed and led them through the gates slowly making sure they didn't touch any part of either fence. She kept an expectantly close eye on her nephew who was most likely to ignore her warnings the first, second and third time.

Brad nodded as he pulled through after the elephants. He kept an eye on Sam just in case like. The lane was long but straight. It looked like it had wild grain in the fields on both sides.
If Rose had shown Brad her map of the farm, he could have seen what it looked like.

Old Map

Rose locked up both gates then rode Flame up to the house. At the house, she got off and unlcked the door so that Brad go go inside the garage with the RV.

"Sam.You and your family may sleep any where around the pond tonight. I am going to get the bananas, oranges and sugar cubes. I am going to give them to you and you are going to give them to your famliy. This is your responsibility.Your chore tonight. Tomorrow, I will figure out what will be your new home. I am tired and need to take care of Blaze yet then cook some food...... Let me see..... Be careful of the pond. If it looks yucky or smells nasty or looks not right, come get me and I'll find some good water for you to drink.
Any questions?" Rose asked.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

The herd walked along the path with Sam behind them. The small pachyderms headed straight for the pond to drink their fill, bath and play. That the water had a green film of algee around the edge did not bother them and soon the pond would be a churning muddy foaming mess as the five elephants rolled and splashed in the water.

An elephant does not wander far from her herd, but Sam was not an elephant. The girl was accustomed to wandering where she pleased apart from the herd. She waited near the house for Rose to give her the fruit and sugar treats. “I sleep any where?” she asked Rose. “We sleep with trees.” The girl could see the forest from the house and pointed at it.
Roweena Rose Merriwe (played anonymously) Topic Starter

"You may sleep inside if you want. Go give your family the treats and then come back. We will go explore the land and talk a bit." Rose spoke softly as she handed the bag to Sam with a smile. She felt much better and the sun had came out and warmed up the air. She needed to get Sam settled in first off. She went to her laptop and printed out the map area where the pond was. Then she placed it on a clipboard. An idea came to her and she quickly found some ribbons which she cut up and put them in a bag. next was making a second map and sealed it with contact paper......
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

Sam took the fruit and cubes of sugar from Rose. The girl took them over to the pond and laid them in the grass well out of the way if the splashing elephants. The young woman called to the herd and squated by the food while waiting for them to come fir the treats in their own time. Sam picked up a banana bit into it ripping a middle section of peel off with her teeth exposing the pale flesh inside. The girl squeezed the ends of the banana forcing the the inside into her mouth.

When the herd started to emerge from the water to invesigate the snacks the girl slipped into the stired up water. Sam paddled around for a few minutes before crawling out of the pond. Dripping dirty water, the wild woman trotted on all fours back to the house and Rose. "Sam go fast. Rose go slow?" She asked the older more civilized woman. Sam was not used to exploring places with humans and wben she had tried to so far sbe found they moved very slowly compared to her and always wanted her to go at their slower pace which was frustrating.
Roweena Rose Merriwe (played anonymously) Topic Starter

Rose laughed.
"Slow down and enjoy our walk. I made something for you. This is a map of your land. Where I am going to make into a home for you and your family. See here? " Rose explained to Sam where everything on the map was by showing where the house then on the map, where the garage was and where it was on the map. She walked to the barn where they would explore the barn.
The barn had been sectioned off at that end for a farm hand. It had a refergerator, table with 4 chairs, a couch and a bed. A bathroom was in there as well. Rose decided that the door might accidently get locked so she made a note to take off the door knob and would replace it later.

"This can be your new place to sleep, Sam. Your family cam sleep over here....." Rose spoke as she walked into the other area.
"Everyone can even have their own room, Sam! And there is a big area in the middle...." She went out the large door after checking to make sure hat it slid easily.

"This is your family home. I'll check for hay. Let's stay on this side of the pond for the night and close the door in case of wild animals. I don't want any one hurt. You want to go bring your family here?" Rose asked before she headed up the ladder.
Ghooa (played by Ms_Draca)

The girl followed Rose to the barn on all fours. She sniffed the stale air inside and inspected the whole of the barn. She pulled the cushions off the couch and squeezed herself through the gap between the back of the couch and the bottom that the cushions sat on to look behind the couch. She pulled the blankets off the bed then got on it and bounced on it while sill on all fours. She showed some interest in the fridge. There was little in it and what had little been left was well beyond it's best by date. The girl closed the fridge quickly and moved to inspect the rooms Rose referred to. T

he stalls were a little interesting and Sam took pleasure in opening the doors and closing them, then leaving some open and others closed in some sort of pattern only she understood. "No. We sleep trees," the girl said simply to her boss. The elephants had no fear of humans but they were not as tame as they appeared. The herd was not as wild as it once had been either after living with humans for the last year but sleeping in a cage even a big one with a cold box of food was not appealing to Sam and she knew the herd would be opposed. They had the forest which while very different was still a little like their jungle home. "We go trees. Family live trees," the girl said trying to explain with her limited English. "Yes, hay. Bring hay. We eat. More more. High, up," Sam said standing and raising her arms over her head to signify a large amount of hay. There had been hay on the train but her family had not wanted to eat on the snake made of moving boxes.
