It was a nice looking house with a lush garden up front, framed by a two foot tall fence serving mainly as decoration. Glowing carved pumpkins lined the path that gently curved up towards the front door. Propped in a rocking chair on the porch was a skeleton wearing a knitted scarf and socks. Cobwebs royally graced the windows and bats dangled from the canopy.
And was that a witch perched atop the smoking chimney, riding a broom with a cat on her shoulder?
Once someone got a closer look at the front door, a nose was visibly smudged up against the window. Fero's warm breath fogged up the glass and his vision was even further impaired when he rubbed his nose up and down to clear the condensation, leaving wet streaks all over. His yellow, cross-eyed gaze excitedly stared outside waiting for trick or treaters to approach.
He LOVED Halloween so much! It was the only time of the year he wasn't considered an awful abomination that should be kept clear from all social contact. His crooked tail flicked around excitedly. This year, his mom allowed him to hand out candy for the first time ever!
Fero eyed the large bowl of candy on the hallway table. It was still full all the way.
A gurgle escaped him before he uttered a whine. "Mooooooowwwwmmm!!!"
"Yes honey?" The adult human woman replied from the living room.
"When's dem comiiiinnggg?"
"Be patient sweetie. I'm sure the first ones will be here soon enough. Just keep an eye out for them!"
"'Kay!" And so Fero resumed his duty and patrolled the front door eagerly.

Seven-year-old Hunter Argentum, eyed the house from the sidewalk. He was dressed as a cute little vampire and with his pumpkin candy bowl swinging from his hand; it was pretty obvious what he was doing. But it was one thing to know you got candy by ringing some stranger's doorbell. It was another to actually do it.
He looked back at his dad, who was dressed as Van Helsing, and then hesitantly approached the door. The decorations caught his eye, as did the skeleton.
With one shaky hand, he found the doorbell and rang it, ready to form the words as soon as it opened.
"Trick-or-treat!"

Fero saw the kid approaching from a thoouuuusand miles away! He squealed excitedly and almost ran head-first into the door if he hadn't thought about containing himself. The mutated llama danced around on all fours until the DING DONG! sounded.
He yanked the cord tied to the handle and the door swung open with a loud BANG as it hit the wall. At 3 feet tall Fero wasn't particularly intimidating, but Hunter was quickly met with an unpleasant odor wafting from the critter. It was a smell one had to get used to, like a ferret's, except it was really bordering on downright nasty.
"HIIIII!!" Fero gave the kid his very best grin!! But something in the back of his head nagged. He'd forgotten something, hadn't he? "TWICK OR TWEAT!" he yelled right back at the kid. No, that wasn't it either. Mmm...

Hunter had expected...well...not that. Anything but what greeted him at the door. And the suddenness by which the door opened had made him leap back about three feet.
Still, once he'd recovered from his surprise, he grinned and even laughed at the creature that greeted him. "What are you supposed to be?" he asked, totally forgetting about the pumpkin candy bowl he held.

Fero stared at the kid for an awful long time with a reciprocating grin, probably to the point where Hunter started to consider leaving without candy. His cross eyed gaze looked blank for the duration up until the sudden new outburst. "FEROC0OUS!"
That's who he was! Yep! Not giving the kid a chance to reply he turned and skipped to the table, grabbed the handle on the bowl with his mouth because he had no hands and carefully maneuvered back to the door. He almost tripped but kept his footing, then presented the bowl to Hunter.
"Mmhngn mwffgr nnngghn!"
What?

Perhaps attracted by all the shouting, a lanky teenager came bounding down the walkway to the house. She was dressed in rags, but it being halloween, that could simply be part of her costume. Yes, perhaps her costume was someone who had been raised by wolves, for there was a distinctly canine pair of ears on hear head and a fluffy tail wagged behind her.
"Are you getting candy too?" she shouted to the little hunter, bounding up behind him.

Hunter laughed and then eyeing the strange way that Fero offered the candy bowl, happily plunged his hand into the container. Hopefully that was a handful he had offered?
Then he jumped when someone a few years older approached, dressed in rags. He emptied his handful into his bucket and grinned at the fellow trick-or-treater, noting the ears and the tail.
"You look like a dog!" he said, excited that he could name the costume. Really, though, that was half the fun... "Are you a werewolf?" Oops, right, he stepped aside so that the teen could have access to the door.

Fero was almost disappointed Hunter hadn't taken more candy. But, unable to speak with the bowl in his mouth, he just made a couple of muffled sounds.
His ears perked excitedly when another approached and he almost howled with delight!
