• Biography

  Life was perfectly normal for eight-year-old Avery. Her only worries were school, making friends and sneaking candy from the top shelf when her parents weren't looking.
  This all ended on the night she was riding the bus back from a trip to town with her mother. She ended up having a chat with a woman who sat across the aisle from them - a shaved-headed woman who called herself 'Sierra'. Things got quiet after Sierra got off, and Avery took a nap out of boredom. She was rudely awoken by the screech of metal-on-metal, and she was thrown against the seat in front of her. Then there was another impact, and everything went dark.
  
  Sierra came across the scene moments after it happened - three buses had collided, and the mangled wreckage was already burning violently. She caught sight of something just on the edge of the blaze; the child she'd talked to earlier, lying on the broken glass of one of the windows. She clearly hadn't come out unscathed, though, and her mother was...even worse off. Sierra carefully gathered the girl up and ran her a short distance away, just in time to catch the explosion of one of the bus' fuel tanks against her back. The woman didn't even falter, bearing the shockwave and moving on.
  
  Bastion Alpha was more than willing to fix the girl up, but it took a lot of work. In the end, they flooded her body with nano-bots, getting them to work on repairing everything they couldn't. She came out of her coma after a few months, and by the time she was ten, she was able to walk again. That was when the real work started; the company trained her to control the nanobots with a little chip they'd implanted in her spine. They set her up with a special wingsuit they called the Aerial Combat Rig, teaching her how to use it, and providing lessons on how to fly actual aeroplanes, jets, hoverjets, hovertanks. By the time she was fourteen, she was an aerial expert, and...moderately intelligent for a girl her age.
  
  It was at this point that Sierra came to her with a plan. Bastion Alpha was helpful, but their help came at a cost. They weren't a 'good' organisation, so with Avery - now known as Alfa - running the jet, Sierra and a few other 'experiments' escaped Bastion Alpha to create their own splinter cell, Bastion Delta. Super-soldiers dedicated to solving the world's problems and following a much stricter code of ethics than Alpha had.
