Can tolerate people who balance the golden neutral middle between friend and enemy. Dislikes positive people that catch Declan's attention and affection between two people angers him. Unknown to Declan, Camden was created from his desperate, depressive desire for companionship and when other people enter his life, that desire and, with it, Camden's necessity, weakens. The wayward soul is only trying to ensure his own survival by separating Declan from anyone that might satisfy his need for company. -
HISTORY
Immediate Family: Mother (Irene - alive, estranged), Father (Donald - alive, estranged)
Childhood: 'Protected' from the darker side of life, Declan grew up sheltered and afraid from interacting with any people but those his parents introduced him to; this prevented him from making many necessary mistakes left him unprepared for the real world. Ironically, he became acquainted with the worst of the worst when because of his father - he was discovered to have an affair and the beginning of the end commensed. His parents never filed a divorce - they should have, instead of passive-aggressively redirecting all their anger towards their son. His mother was the worst part of it - Declan suffered from a broken wrist during one of her breakdowns and despite being sorry, she didn't learn better. Other than that incident, they weren't abusive, but Declan didn't need more than that to retaliate. He discovered what he could do upon seeing a door slamming shut in his mother's face after he did nothing but wish it closed. After a trip to a priest and a quick blessing, the family opted to ignore the incident until something bigger happened and they couldn't turn a blind eye anymore. They knew he was different, but what they assumed to be stress-resultant telekinesis was something else entirely. Declan had an invisible friend he'd conjured out of thin air.
Adolescence: Things continued in that vein for a while. The entity would not relinquish its hold on the boy, unaffected by blessing or exorcism. It simply... stuck around. Probably affected by Declan's desire for it to stay. He wasn't alone anymore - he had a friend he'd named Camden. And Camden did more good than bad. Harassment at school lessened with extra force up his sleeve, he benefitted from conveniently timed item movement... no matter his dub as 'devil child'. He had an actual superpower... and he was inclined to keep it. After finishing school and moving out, he began Creative Arts college. He did have a talent for painting after all. Along with the first friend he made there... came about the change in Camden. Apparently the thing didn't like him having other friends or socializing because that meant less attention for him. So he began to meddle. Ruined relations, estranged Declan from other people, made them scared of him. Hateful and bitter, the man became a self-loathing recluse with his only company -- a spirit he despised.
Cadence: It's a long and painful love story... One spanning a little over five years and culminating in two shattered hearts. He meets her through Camden, who he's learned to be able to see through. The spirit is his eyes and through them he watches a lonely girl paint at 8 pm in a classroom three doors down from Declan's. She's quiet and precise... and beautiful. So he makes a habit out of it. It isn't long before he makes himself known to her in the worst way possible. Through Camden. The spirit clearly doesn't like their little ritual, doesn't like Declan's infatuation. So he tries to scare her... Turns out she's more intrigued and scared. And just like that, they begin communicating, getting to know each other in an unorthodox manner. Through Camden. The little sucker has no choice but to stand through it. He is connected to Declan and Declan can control him, so he sits still and waits it out. Waits 'till he can ruin everything... He does. The moment Cadence discovers Declan's identity, the man makes sure he falls of the face of the earth. He exists in solitude for three whole years, hiding behind the artistic alias 'Camden', which he uses for his art gallery displays. It doesn't take her long to find him. Doesn't take them long to fall in love once the past issues are settled. Camden hates her. She makes his host happy and the entity does its best to make her life hell... One night it all boils over and in the end, they're just two people, on either end of a destroyed room, held back by an unearthly force, knowing they can never be together.
