  • Scars: Burn scarring on right hand, which is much less deft than the other. An angry purplish band that circles the neck just below the jaw, likely from a rope. He refuses to speak of either event.
  • Personality: Paranoid, predatory. At times, a sense of crazed intensity will fight past his emotional mask, which gave a frightening glimpse to what wheels were turning inside his head.
  • Mannerisms: Facial tic when under great stress or shock, he also seems to stroke his injured hand when thinking.
  • Likes: Survival, power.
  • Dislikes: Anything in his way.

• Description

  A caulbearer is said to be one born behind the veil, those who came screaming into this world wearing a mask of skin stretched across infant face. An event so rare is usually cause for celebration, for it marks extraordinary births. All of that changed when the mask was peeled back to reveal skin the shade of whitest silk and eyes blushed with blue, new born and already far too observent. He was born of an old and superstitious people, observent to ancient powers that roam the cracks of the earth.
  
  The midwives whispered of a Changling, and such rumors persisted as the boy grew, fey and alien to those around him. As in all such things, matters came to a head with a literal trial by fire that left one hand a barely usable claw; always covered. Exactly how he escaped, and where the child escaped to was a matter of great debate over the years though it was eventually decided that it had indeed been a changling to replace the mother's real child, stolen by Faerie.. and that the creature had been driven back to it's creators.
  
  Years passed, as they do, and into the world came a man who might have resembled the child birthed so long ago. A man who might have been fae-touched, with a defiant glare and a predatory instinct that radiated it's danger to those sensitive enough to pick it up. His ears may seem elongated, almost feline, though it may be a trick of the light. His felidae avatism was subtle, the benefits undeniable. Stealth, quickness, tricks of the shadows. And of that time, lost over the Hedge to the mercurial mercies of Faerie folk? He flatly refused to speak of it. He revealed little, other than through the indulgence of his whims and a paranoia that even now, he was being pursued by either the boy he'd been sent to replace .. or those who he'd failed in his mission of deception so long ago.

• Biography

  Little is known, and he is unlikely to speak of the past without good reason or dire need. Of course, one might compel him if they knew his True name. Knowledge of that title was guarded as jealously as his life, which were one and the same in many fashions.

    "Intriguing character profile, indeed...but, why a caulbearer? Have you done research on caulbearers? Did you know that people born with the caul are real people with real feelings? We are not freaks or beasts, or creatures of darkness. We find this kind of story degrading and dehumanizing, spreading more horrid lore about what we are about. Please, don't.
