Raithyr

Name: Raithyr Valdrithan

His surname is that of a fairly well known and well off family, although they are not considered nobles. His Mother is a powerful mage, one of the most powerful living magic users amongst his people. His father was never much of a magic user, but is a skilled sculptor, painter and jeweler. He has two sisters as well, and quite the large extended family. Most of them have done one extreme or the other, isolated in the homeland, or gone across the Areth Ocean, even further away than Raith traveled. He has his own reasons for distancing himself from family. He has only rarely spoken to them over the last century or so, and then only through letters.

Age: 415

By Elvish standards he is neither old, nor young. Elves of his type can live for over two thousand years. They are considered a full and proper adult, at around a century of age.

Height: 6'8

He is considered a fairly average, or slightly above average in height for his people, but would not even really be considered tall. In much of the lands outside of his home, he towers over others, and is quite often the tallest one in the room. It took him a while to get used to this.

Build: Slender, long of body and limb.

Like most of his people, he is slim and willowy, and would probably even be called skinny. If he possessed less grace in his movements he would be called gangling. The height, somehow seems 'right' for someone of his bearing.

Eyes: Pale gold. They seem almost luminous at times.

Hair. Black, pin straight, falls to just past his hips. It is sometimes tied back when he is working, but generally left hanging free and loose. It is very well cared for.

Species: Elf (Threndari)

The Threndari are a rare sub-species of elf that for centuries was more or less shrouded in mystery. Rumor has it they have Fae ancestry, if so, they do not seem to suffer any of the weaknesses of the Fae-folk, such as weakness to iron. They are an almost unnaturally tall people, sometimes pushing close to seven foot in height. A 'short' Threndari would still be about 6'2. There is not a great height difference between male and female, although males tend to be on average a couple inches taller. They are very long of limb and body and slim, although not as frail as they seem.

Threndari are quite commonly magic users, with the vast majority of the population having access to at least a small amount of either nature based, or arcane ability. They quite commonly look down upon (literally and figuratively) Humans and even some other kinds of elves. They tend to have dark brown, or black hair, although occasionally a deep silver or dark red is seen. Their skin tone tends to be anywhere from a light tan to deep bronze. Eyes have a fairly wide variety of shades, nearly any color imaginable, but are usually pale.

A vast majority of the Threndari have isolated themselves to a total of three settlements in remote regions. They rarely allow outsiders inside their walls, and the Threndari who leave, are often forever treated as outsiders.

Raithyr is often coldly composed, detached, and in public, shows little outright emotion. He is occasionally snide with a dry sense of humor. He toes a line when advising that edges close to, but not quite outright insolence and insult. Such a manner of speaking would not go well for anyone else, but Raith has made himself invaluable, with the various services he provides.

The King is a fairly young man, mid-twenties. King Kelvor Daln. He ascended to the throne at a mere sixteen years of age, when his Father, died rather suddenly. The previous King, Karvos, was utterly ruthless, and short tempered. He made snap decisions on mere whim, sometimes executing those who had offended him, or even just made a mistake in his presence, right on the spot. He waged war for petty reasons with neighboring nations, and slowly seemed to be losing his grip on reality more and more with each passing day. His death from what seemed to be heart failure.. was, deep down a relief, to many of his people.

In an effort to be as much unlike his father as possible, Kelvor was too far of a pendulum swing, and has managed to be a rather ineffective King, terrible at making decisions, reluctant to take any action even when it was needed. His Queen, who he married two years into his reign, is a kindly sort, but not much of a ruler herself, either.

There are some that say that Raithvyr rules in all but name, as he often directs many of the decisions and proclamations.. But Raith himself answers directly to Elandri Mage Keep, their High Council and Arch Mage.

Now, threats of war are brewing for for another reason entirely. Kelvor is seen as a weak King. His people have seen years of relative peace.. and one of the kingdoms to the North, feels Teldranis is ripe for the taking.

From the West, comes disquieting news of another nature.

Elandri has proclaimed Kelvor an unfit King.
