  • Mom used to be in the business of showing dogs before she got into the business of showing kids. At least that’s what dad tells me from time to time, as if it could explain away all her issues. Poor dad, he must have thought storks really existed that day when he went to get the paper and found me instead; mom didn’t even have the decency to ring the door bell and save me a bit of the cold weather. Don’t get me wrong, he’s raised me well enough for a guy that never wanted me. Took me to baseball games and everything, even got me a job on the street corner hollering for people to buy newspapers.

    I guess that’s where mom saw me for the first time since ditching me with my dark hair coming out in little loops from under my floppy news cap. Maybe it was love at first sight or maybe the dollar signs were in the way, but she took me straight to a child modeling agency and signed my life away without dad or mine’s say. I guess I did well for a time but I didn’t like it and eventually I ran away. Mom threw a fit but dad managed to get custody after a long battle and took me out of the business.

    I knew in middle school that I was going to be a writer and that any other profession just wasn’t worth considering. I even made it all the way to high school before hitting my first writing block. I don't think I ever managed to get out of that block to be honest, but you don’t have to tell that to the newspaper I work for. Sometimes they use my photography for their spreads, but I do that as a hobby and not for the passion. Besides, I can usually manage to put some bullshit together to satisfy them enough not to fire me.

    Body Type: Lean and toned, he takes good care of himself but prefers a slim cut to a muscular one
    Skintone: Creamy bronze, mother was part Native American and passed the slight-tan look on to her son
    Hair: Black with dark blue tints in bright light, longer in the front and short and curly in the back, soft and welcoming to the touch
    Wings: Not capable of flight, golden and tawny browns with some darker creams and black markings mainly covering the upper inner wing and along the outside feathers
    Alterations: Has a black swallow tattoo flying on his left hip with the words 'ego si relapses resurgo' under it

    Species: Mauritius Kestrel (mother) x Bengalese Eagle Owl (father)
    Result: Colors are tawny, cream and golden with some darker orange-brown shades mixed in; markings take after the kestrel with spots on the chest and upper inner wing while body is where the eagle owl shows more: legs are more stumpy, head is less streamlined and there are the tell-tale tufts rising over his eyes - mostly he associates with kestrel
    Changing: You can call him a werebird if you'd like, but the change is a mystery to him; he doesn't consider it magic, just a talent - Del only has to think about it and he can change into his kestrel form, no shifting or smoke: one second he's a boy with wings the next he's a bird with wings

    Pros: Deeply loyal to people, effortlessly charming, playful and good natured, determined to do the right thing (if it doesn't depend on him making enough money to live), lives life to the fullest and doesn't waste time regretting the past, self sacrificing, comforting, easy going
    Cons: Tends to invade personal bubbles, can switch from extrovert to introvert and back very quickly, sometimes selfish and bratty, often too trusting for his own good, has mommy issues, impulsive and curious, has a penchant for running away, easily jealous or possessive, optimistically pessimistic

Plain shirts can usually be seen tucked into skinny plaid pants of varying dark hues ending with battered sneakers that were probably quite fetching once upon a time. Coats are also a rather common sight along with floppy news boy caps, the two items helping to keep the frequently chilled bird boy warm.
    Possessions: Small rolling suitcase (named Bartholomew) filled with odds and ends, tiny wooden swan figurine, keys to a vespa, tattered stuffed sheep (named Woolston), letters from mom and dad, an engagement ring
