One would think that with his lineage, that Fyodor would feel grand and proud, but if he was to admit anything, it feels like a burdern. It wasn't merely enough that Fyodor was the son of the elven Archmage Orazio and the dragon Ejderlahi'tan Tathève. His father was the grandmaster of the Irem Tower and headmaster to Tanrisal Academy, whereas his mother was a duchess from San Ignagui, a land known for dragons, primordial beasts, and other divine creatures. Rarely did his parents live together for long, but to such long-lived beings, neither really noticed the time or distance between each other due to their day jobs. The most they stayed together, for days back to back, was when Fyodor was a hatchling.
With all that, as the offspring to such a prestigious couple, Fyodor, of course, loved his parents, but the pressure of their reputations were just too much for him.
Prior to becoming the towermaster, Orazio had been an adventurer, working under the Halcyon guild as a mage for centuries. While most elves preferred to stay within their homelands to toil and nurture, a youthful Orazio longed for something less stationary as he desired to travel and experience grand merits. That was how the man met his future wife, Tathève, when he faced her as an opponent through a guild commission. His party was meant to slay her, as requested by the emperor yet none could defeat her. After that first defeat, Orazio became dedicated to persue Tathève over the years, which turned into decades-long chase. What originally started as a quest to kill became an arduous courtship of the century. It's a cheesy romance if Fyodor had anything to describe his parents.
Nevertheless, his parents casted great shadows that Fyodor wasn't sure where he'd fall. For starters, he wasn't the prestigious mage like his father, albeit he was capable of casting magic. The only problem was that he wasn't exceptionally intelligent as his father as he knew people hoped for. Archaic languages, magical formulas, mathematic precisions, or just literature didn't come easy to him — even with the longevity of his life. Some of his tutors and professors even pointed out to the elf that humans learnt faster than he. Yeah, his scholarly pedigree was nothing to brag about and a sore topic for Fyodor. After all, how could the son of the school's headmaster struggle academically? Was his enrollment some sham? Exactly how long had Fyodor been attending Tanrisal? For some reason, people couldn't recall that information...
At least, if there was anything of comfort, was that Fyodor, in all aspects of irony, was a talented knight. In training. With apologies to his mother, a sword felt natural in his hand. That was a surprising talent as one year, Fyodor decided to try out the knighthood on a whim. He didn't expect much about it — no one did, not with his grades — but his stamina, endurance, and strength was incomparable. None of it was bad, a bit sloppy and untrained, but all that could be properly finessed. He had not only the talent to become an exceptional knight, but with Fyodor's abilitiy to wield and manipular aura, he had the promise of becoming an exemplary aura knight. Perhaps there could be something hoped from the archmage's son.
So those were the thoughts of the humans around him, yet Fyodor couldn't take such credit of a genius. All of his success was only thanks to his mother's genes. As a half-dragon, all of his physical ability was just a natural expectation. He didn't really need to work for the inhuman strength or any of that. It just simply was, except no one knew that because no one could know that he was a half-dragon.
One day, years ago, Archmage Orazio simply came back to the kingdom with a child in his arms. A child he explained to be his son. Who was the mother? Who was the wife of Archmage Orazio? He didn't say much. Just that "his wife wasn't here with them anymore." Which, by technicality, was true. Tathève was living contently in San Ignagui as the duchess of Ejderlahi. He never said she was dead, however he couldn't say she was alive. After all, there was an Imperial order for her death, and Orazio, amongst others, was given that order. Orazio, in efforts to save his love, chose to kill his guildmates and slay anyone that went after Tathève. It was treason, it was love, it was why no one could know Fyodor was a half-dragon.
When anyone looked at Fyodor, the illusion stone he wore portrayed him as a simple elf. They did not see his serpentine eyes, fangs, and they most certainly did not see his tail. Talons? No! You saw wrong! He was just an elf. He might not share his father's light hair or sharp wit or elven elegance, but his ears were pointed, and well, what else did you expect from an elf! Of course he was just a normal elf. Nothing strange here! -
