  Falcon

  
  This Egyptian Desert Falcon stands tall and proud, his head held high and fierce golden eyes radiating the savage joy of an apex predator. His brilliant white and grey feathers catch the morning sun and he revels in the joys of flight and hunt. He is clothed with simple white cloth to keep off the desert heat but this is offset by golden necklaces bearing protective symbols as well as other ornaments made of the golden skin of Ra, rare lapis-lazuli and emeralds. This is a proud man of wealth and power. Perhaps he is the lord of one of the cities that dot the banks of the sacred Nile or perhaps he is a commander of the Pharaoh's armies, ever watchful against the hated Nubians or the cruel Hyksos of the red land, of the desert, those who revere Set, the foe of his lord and patron Horus, He Who Is Above All
  
  

  Human

  
  A tall, fierce-eyed man of his early middle years, Her-Uben is a loyal servant of Pharaoh and General in the armies of the King of the Two Lands. He keeps his ever-keen iron khopesh sword wherever he goes, though he prefers to wear plain, loose white cloth rather than encumbering leather armour if he is not on the field of battle. Though his clothing is generally plain and utilitarian, a man of his standing is virtually obligated to wear finery, lest he not be taken seriously. Therefore he wears several rings of gold and emerald and sapphire, with necklaces and protective amulets depicting his lord, Horus or his Eye or else the sacred scarab. These ornaments too are made of the golden skin of Ra as well as fine emerald and precious lapis-lazuli.
  
  His name, Her-Uben, means Resplendent Sky and he is a Horus man through and through and whilst he understands why his men worship Set the God of War, Foreigners and the Desert, he stands in eternal enmity with the Desert Lord's non-Egyptian servants, for just as Set can protect so too can he destroy and the Nubians, Bedouins and especially the Hyksos have often cast covetous eyes on the sacred Nile, ever seeking to wrest the throne of Egypt from the True Living Horus.

• Biography

  Her-Uben is descended from a long and glorious line of soldiers and commanders in Pharaoh's armies, and he proved himself early on in his military career during a skirmish with Hyksos forces. He rose through the ranks of the army and eventually commanded a successful raid on a northern Hyksos city, stealing a great deal of gold and slaves for the honour of Pharoah.
  
  Eventually he was made a general and he helped Pharoah Neb-Pehty-Re (Ahmose I) in his campaigns further south, aiding the great pharoah in eventually seizing the Hyksos capital Avaris after four attacks, driving them to the fortress of Sharuhen in Canaan and expelling them from Egypt, re-uniting the Two Lands under a native Egyptian king for the first time in over a century, though he did not take part in the three year long siege that destroyed Sharuhen and ended the Hyksos threat.
  
  During the war Her-Uben was granted the title of 'Lord Harrab' and the estates there, as well as the title 'Bane of the Servants of Set' in reference to the victories he won during the war against the Hyksos. He is the only son of Amenhotep the Lord of Waset.
  
  Now in peace-time, he governs a small estate given to him in gratitude by Pharaoh, though often he gives over the running of the estate to his steward, a loyal and well-loved slave with great talents with mathematics and writing, and his younger nephew. He is occasionally obliged to go to the capital for obligatory feasts or events in order to maintain ties with the noble families and with Pharaoh, but all in all he prefers the simpler life of a solider than the intrigues and politics at court.
  
  Her-Uben was taken to a distant region by the god Amun, a floating pyramid high in the sky, after he got lost in the desert during a sandstorm on his way home from the wars. It would not be until later that Uben realised that the Pyramid existed between times and worlds, apart from the normal progression of events. He soon met many strange people from lands and times far beyond his limited knowledge. Finding the realtive peace of the Pyramid much more to his liking than the constant wars that ravaged Egypt, Uben became Egypt's Ambassador to this floating realm and officially retired from his post as general of Pharaoh's Army. Not long after arriving at this strange place he met Kureyah, the Court Magus. They eventually began a relationship and were married, Kureyah teaching the rather set-in-his-ways falcon about magic, science and other modern concepts.
