• Biography

  Laphicet Crowe is the youngest brother of Velvet and Celica Crowe. Though gifted with high resonance at birth, which allowed him to see malakhim, he had also been afflicted with what had been called the 'twelve-year sickness,' a disease that plagues its victim throughout life with frequent fever, ultimately killing them by the age of twelve. In his short time, he had become a child prodigy under his mentor and brother in-law, the exorcist and eventual Shepherd of the Midgand Empire, Artorius Collbrande, whom he and his sisters would call Arthur.
  
  When he was only four, an event called the Scarlet Night occurred, every three years when the moon turns red and humanity's resonance is higher than normal. Brigands, turned demon from their succumbing to malevolence, killed Celica and her and Artorius' unborn son at the shrine on the outskirts of their village, Aball. This resulted in the semi-awakening of an empyrean, an extremely powerful malak lord, named Innominat, who was known to erase the emotions of mankind every millennia in order to purge malevolence from the world. Incidentally, Celica and her son were reincarnated as the malakhim Seres and a malak initially named Number Two but later renamed by Velvet after Laphicet, after his death. This was known as the Opening, granting mankind the ability to see demons.
  
  Velvet had been close to Laphicet throughout his life, and he, in turn, sought to make her happy whenever he could. As Arthur explained that Innominat needed one more high resonance soul to fully awaken and grant humanity the ability to see malakhim and become exorcists with ease, Laphicet knew of his inevitable death and beseeched him to sacrifice him on the upcoming Scarlet Night, for he was nearing his twelfth birthday. His intentions were to give Velvet a more peaceful world as the result of his sacrifice, and the two kept this plan a secret from her, because she would likely object to it.
  
  However, come the next Scarlet Night, Velvet happened upon Laphicet's sacrifice, witnessing Artorius run her little brother through with his sword and lowering him into the shrine's dark pit. Velvet, in a rage, went after him, but was cursed with a demonic arm, robbing her of the senses of taste (aside from blood) and touch. She began to devour all the villagers-turned-demons with this arm and Arthur had her imprisoned in the prison island of Titania, where she would be fed demons to devour, and in turn feed Innominat the malevolence it needed to truly awaken.
  
  However, she was broken out with the help of Seres and, after carving a path of destruction from her journey to avenge her brother, was given the title of Lord of Calamity by the populace. This title would go on to future demons, and later hellions, who would be cursed after accumulating more malevolence than any human would otherwise possibly accumulate. There are at least two other known people that held this title, but the only named Lord of Calamity besides Velvet would be Heldalf, thousands of years later.
