Infancy: Normal family, single child, a completely regular life. Childhood Warning! Very very triggering content. Underage sexual violence. __________________________
Adolescence: By the age of 14, Sun has recovered all motor movement, knows how to shoot a gun and has become proficient in knife-throwing even with his physical handicaps. He excells despite them, but hates being weaker in comparison to everyone else, still. It's at that time that they find the first witch. She's powerful, but not amoral and it takes some violent persuasion from Hart to make her help a psychotic little thing like Sun. At the end, she gives him eyes. It's a painfully long process, one she extends unnecessarily out of spite, and the damned magic eyeballs sting inside his sockets, but he can see again. He can see his father, whose face is the first one in his direct line of sight when the bandage comes off and he opens his eyes and registers light for the first time in years... It's so fucking painful to cry, it feels like acid sliding down his cheeks, but he can't control himself. They're happy tears, for once...When Sun is five years old, the men come. Mother lets them in because they say they want to talk to father and she goes to get him. Sun remembers she never made it to the living room. There's a loud noise and her face explodes in blood. He remembers his father screaming and then he's laying on the floor next to his mother, bleeding out of his head like her. He tries to run and almost makes it out, but then there's that loud noise again, accompanied by sudden excruciating pain and darkness. He wakes up in agony and with one arm less. He can't see a single thing, everything hurts and he's hysterical for days until they grow tired of his crying and shut him up with more pain. They took his eyes, but he has to behave because they threaten to take away more than that. He keeps quiet for a while. He spends a few weeks with the men and he hates it, until they pawn him off to hell and then he misses them like crazy. They didn't touch him like that, at least. They fed him, let him leave the bed, let him have the mirror, didn't chain him down... but the man they give Sun to does. He lets other men and women in, takes their money and lets them loose to do whatever they want. That's his life for four years, during which he learns to exist in a state of catatonia, blocking out everything. It takes very little time for Sun to break. He's someone's property and he accepts it. He resigns himself to it. He's forgotten his own damn name and the faces of his parents when he's taken away from that horrible place. He can't see his saviour, but he knows it's male and that terrifies him for a long time because he's learned people can have only one type of intent towards a kid like him. Maximillion Hart, mobster and mafia head, has none of those intentions.. He brings Sun home and treats the unresponsive boy with care until he slowly, but surely starts improving. From small movements to singular words, the progress is steady and during all of it Sun remembers a deep, soothing voice -- not the boy's voice, but that of a man that calls him 'son' without any innuendo in his tone. It's one hell of a year that he spends recovering on IVs, often alone, listening to people talking just beyond the door, insisting that Hart get rid of the worthless, crippled child. Hart never does. Another year is spent in consistent care; he starts talking and eating on his own again, it's not much but he isn't on the verge of dying of malnourishment, at least... He's calm and melancholic around Hart, he trusts him even if sometimes he overhears words like 'murder' and 'maiming' around the house. He trusts him with his life because he owes him his life. And then all that progress is lost when he hears a gun for the first time in six years and it renders him hysterical for days, reliving his mother and father's deaths and the beginning of his own personal hell over and over again. He fears Hart will get tired of his crying and do what the men that took him had done. Cut something else off... But Hart is patient. He assures him he's safe and it's not just words. He gives the child a gun and teaches him how to use it. Sun's hearing is advanced enough that he can locate a target and shoot it. Hart is a man of many enemies and although he and Sun move, trouble is quick to follow. Another break-in attack happens and Hart is injured severely, a few of his men are taken out as well, but the attackers don't know to watch out for the one-armed blonde little boy with the empty eyesockets, who puts a cap in one of the men's head as soon as they walk into his room and then continues shooting. It feels like retribution when he crawls over to the dead bodies and feels the blood soaking through their clothing. He remembers the men that killed his parents and is satisfied. He can imagine it's them dead on the floor and it gives him a pleasant adrenaline rush. He's not helpless anymore... Sun can't exist in that dark little room any longer, unable to take being so vulnerable. Hart decides to put that to good use. He has green eyes that clash with the angry red of his eyelids, but he thinks they're beautiful. The first time he looks at himself in a mirror is a wonderful event for sure because he's changed so much, but then it becomes disturbing. 'Look closely, that's what they saw whenever they'd look at you. No wonder they liked you so much... You'd have looked even prettier with eyes.' He swears off of mirrors for a while until the mask comes along. He can't bear to be looked at now that he knows it's the reason it all happened, so Hart complies with that request of his as well. He gives him a dark metal mask and lets him do what he's learned to do best. Kill. It doesn't give him joy, but the feeling of power is a wonder, so he insists on being included in Hart's business, even if he knows he's inferior due to his remaining disability and lesser skillset. Hart hurries to amend that and soon Sun receives a metal arm, courtesy of the same witch and a personal trainer. The progress he makes is fast and impressive. It takes years, but he picks things up fast, has a mind for offensive strategy and puts in gruelling work; at the end he's become a monster, but somehow it makes him so proud to know he can one-up any burly cutthroat from his father's possé at 17. He covers all the mirrors and becomes his father's weapon. The scared little blind boy is long dead and gone. Sun is born. |
