Reapers are angels that serve Death. They assist in maintaining the Natural Order and are completely neutral, aligned with either Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. Raven is the only Reaper aligned with Purgatory and the guardian of purgatorial souls. Raven is a soul collector. He is often accompanied by a raven shifter who points him to lost souls or souls due to cross over to the other side and he decides whether or not the souls are worthy of one of the three dimensions - heaven, hell or his home - purgatory. If the soul is due to leave the body for Purgatory, Raven spreads huge black raven-esque wings and descends upon the body with a kiss of death, enveloping the soul inside his own vessel and protecting it until it has reached Purgatory. 
Angelic Abilities
Angelic possession - Angels require a vessel while on Earth. Any vessel they possess that is not their true vessel will begin to lose its power.
Dream Walking - Angels can appear in people's dreams.
Holy White Light - A particularly lethal power, angels can unleash a highly concentrated blast of pure energy from their palms to incinerate or destroy targets. This is not a power Raven can use extensively anymore.
Immortality/Invulnerability - Angels do not age and cannot be killed by Earthly weapons. Only Angel Blades, Holy Fire, a stronger angel, Death and God can harm them. If an angel's vessel is damaged, it will repair itself nearly instantly.Super Strength - Once possessing a vessel, angels use their power to dramatically increase the physical strength threshold of their hosts. Archangels are the most powerful class of angel of all,.
Super Senses - Acute sense of smell. Angels can hear a humans conversations miles away from them, and they are somehow able to locate any human on the planet and find them.
Telekinesis - Angels are able to telekinetically move beings and objects with their mind.
Protective Charm - An angel can protect an individual from harm. Raven was able to stop his vessel from committing suicide many times and then, later, protected Victoria Sudine's body. -
Backstory
Once upon a time
Once upon a time Raven was an angel burdened with great responsibility. He was the Archangel Barachiel - patron of blessings and guardian angels. Barachiel interceded in prayer before God for people in need, asking God to give them blessings in all areas of their lives - from their relationships with family and friends to their work. Since Barachiel was also the chief of all guardian angels, people sometimes asked for Barachiel's help delivering a blessing through one of their personal guardian angels.
Barachiel was the recepient of prayers and, as followed, the angel that was most closely connected to humans; Barachiel was also associated with guardian angels, who oversaw human lives. He held unconditional love for humanity and was the archangel patron of family life and children. God had asked his archangels to treat his greatest creations - humans - as well as they treated him and Barachiel fulfilled that request with the utmost dedication.
It was not long before it became clear that humanity's biggest enemy was itself. Barachiel grew worried when the prayers he received started becoming more malicious and ill-meant than before. Where humans had asked for blessings and happiness before, now they were praying for sorrow unto others, for their own kin's downfall. Human kind had become so hateful it had started using God's name to promote hate and uttering it in prayers where they requested punishment be brought down upon others. The archangels were displeased, but Barachiel was more worried than disappointed. Barachiel was not familiar with human flaws, nor did he know what humans experienced living in the world. The angel wasn't quick to condemn them - Barachiel wished to understand them and, hopefully, to forgive them. He wished to willingly take the fall for humanity and be sent to the human world so he could experience the lives of his protected.
My lover's a horror
Barachiel willingly put himself through the horrors of losing his grace and receiving the fallen halo, but the angel was far from prepared for the horrors of life on Earth. The first vessel Barachiel found himself in was a female.
Barachiel called herself Anna Leighton and made her best to experience every aspect of human life she could. Discovering how much sex/race/sexuality/age-based hate humanity harboured for one another was terrifying for the optimistic Anna. She couldn't help but find personal fault in the state of the world. She adored humanity and could not find it in her heart to blame it for the mistakes she herself had made. They were still worthy of forgiveness in her eyes. But she was not.
It was why when she met a young and suave demon who was too kind and too loving than any demon should have been, Anna did not think twice about believing his pretences and finding the good sides of him and coveting them. She was rejoicing - the children of Lucifer were capable of love and kindness, surely humanity, which was blessed with neutrality of spirit, were capable of those traits as well. Damon was most certainly not loving, nor kind, but he was a wonderful manipulator. He managed to maintain his abusive relationship with the angel until he had gotten its human vessel pregnant. When he began posing a threat to the child, Anna knew better than to stay. She left her abuser and went to have her child elsewhere. Functioning in the human world, with a person growing inside her vessel, proved terrifying for Anna, but she couldn't leave even though she had done what she had set out to do - she had experienced life, love and pain. But she did not wish to experience the loss of a child. Life was precious and so was her child.
Nephalem
Anna gave birth to a healthy baby girl and named her Sekesa. Her child was a nephalem - half demon and half angel in the vessel of a human. Anna had hoped that her baby wouldn't inherit Damon's demonic origins but she had and Anna didn't know what to do. She was powerless, without her grace and with Damon on her tail. She couldn't protect her baby like this. Thus, she chose to return to heaven - she put Sekesa (named differently to conform to human standards) up for adoption in an inconspicuous orphanage and killed her own vessel by means of drowning. She was sent to purgatory and became Barachiel again, though the angel didn't receive his grace back. Rather, he was made the chief of purgatory, as he couldn't be reinstated as an archangel. Barachiel had hoped he could guard their child from above and use the power he had received back to send blessings to Sekesa. It was a matter of time before Damon found the little girl at the age of two and took her in. Barachiel couldn't let the demon take his child and put it through the same abuse he had put Anna through. No heavenly position was more important than Barachiel's child.
Barachiel did not wish to relinquish his grace a second time, so instead he didn't. He fell to Earth again willingly and this time took his true vessel, but retained some of his angelic powers. Barachiel's true vessel was male and he looked nothing like the mother Sasha might have remembered having, but he hoped she would learn to love her mother in her true vessel as well. This time around Barachiel named himself Aiden Dalcais and went to save his daughter from the paws of her abusive father. The child was two and a half then and the damage had been done.
Aiden managed to separate the girl from Damon and took her with him. He raised her as a single parent, partially unable to function in the human world, running from demons and angels alike who wished harm upon Sekesa only because she was born both demon and angel - an abomination. It was hardlt an ideal family environment and Aiden had many many failures but he gave it his best. Eventually Barachiel's siblings caught him and almost extracted his grace, but he managed to evade that. He seriously wounded Uriel in his escape - it was the first bad thing he had done that he did not regret because he had done it for his Kesa. He sought protection in the face of his past abuser - Damon - for a brief while because the archdemon offered to defend them. He treated them properly for the little time they spent with him, but Aiden left with Sekesa once again, fearful of the relapse that might happen. He
taught his daughter to keep her head down so she wouldn't get noticed and targeted - she was in possession of great power but he didn't want her to use it for destruction, even if it was the destruction of her enemies. However it seemed as though the whole world was against Aiden's baby girl - he had to protect her from both the human and supernatural world - demons, angels, hellhounds, drugs, alcohol, sex, vices and sins. He couldn't protect himself from those things and thus he failed in protecting her as well.
Sasha was a very curious child growing up and Aiden had a hard time keeping her from indulging in too much exploration in inappropriate fields - because when she wanted to know something, it didn't matter whether Aiden insisted it wasn't meant for people her age, she still wanted to educate herself on it. She disliked educational institutions like school or courses, but wanted to expand her knowledge on her own terms. This lead to many awkward situations of Aiden having to explain human world concepts he himself wasn't too sure he knew enough about. It was difficult raising a child when Aiden felt like one himself due to his lack of experience as a human - setting examples meant having an example of an experience to give and he had none. He wasn't the greatest parent when it came to education, because the good and kindness he preached wasn't always applicable in some more dangerous situations. And Sekesa... she had an affinity to getting in trouble. If Aiden didn't make sure to busy her in a more harmless activity, she was prone to walking out of the house or walking off while out in public. With a horde of angelic soldiers and an abusive demon out to get them, Aiden was scared enough for her safety without her unintentionally jeopardizing it on her own.
Clearly, she was a bit of a handful, but she was a joy nevertheless.
Heaven and Hell
As Sekesa grew up Aiden grew... paranoid. Though he had significant angelic powers, he still wasn't powerful enough to fully protect his daughter from everything bad. He needed protection and Damon was still an option - he persecuted them, but didn't express any desire to hurt them. Rather, he wanted his family back. Aiden, apparently not having learned his lesson, believed his claims. He allowed Damon back into Sekesa's life and rejoiced as he watched them grow close. He and his little girl went througha few months of calm, then four months of storm. Damon was the father that took Sekesa everywhere and allowed her to explore things Aiden would never let her explore. He allowed her to have fun on her own terms so he could prove he was a good parent. He couldn't keep his addictions under control, however, and often ended up taking Sekesa along when he indulged in bad habits. He was a toxic father while maintaining the veneer of a good parental figure. He masked bad things as 'fun' and taught their daughter accordingly. It wasn't until Aiden caught Damon in the attempt of abusing Sekesa that he thought to leave the man. And leave he did.
The Now
It was the following year that Aiden decided to have his trademark tattoo raven wings done on his back. It was a symbol of strength for him; a mark of flight despite hardships. His tattooist happened to be no other than a hellhound he remembered from his past... Six. The sixth hellhound in charge of the gates of hell and a man who Aiden had observed from above during a different period of his life. When they met in the tattoo parlour the hellhound was a soulless man, but Aiden remembered him having a family. The same family who Six had watched die. The same family that Aiden, or Barachiel, had collected the souls of. Six remembered the loss of his family and he recognized the fallen angel despite his change of appearance. Aiden had brought Sekesa along to the tattoo parlour; he'd brought his child over only to meet the man whose family he had taken away once... The relationship between the two started out rocky, but Six, being a hellhound, protected Sekesa's soul. A pleasant companionship formed between the hellhound and the fallen angel. It eventually grew into something more... and then collapsed on his head. He supposed that he didn't know enough about relationships to know that he wasn't loved back.
