Toby has always known he was a mistake. Therefore he did everything he could, to live up to that statement. An impassioned obsession even. Growing up Toby has had two vague father figures.
1. Caleb Vasali, who believed Toby was his own flesh and blood for five years, until Destiny's secret was revealed. Shortly after, Caleb disappeared and were never to be seen again. He taught Toby how to just disappear if things were getting complicated.
2. Ethan Wood, Toby's biological father, a stranger for many years. Only stories and rumors taught Toby who the infamous Ethan Wood was, until Toby finally found courage to meet him when he was 18.
Destiny, his beloved mother. The only constant parent figure in his life. She was a good woman with the rest of the world against her. During Toby's childhood he witnessed strange interactions between his mother and various types of men. Loud screaming from the basement, laughter and cries. However, when they came back from the basement everyone seemed... Satisfied?
Toby didn't understand what went on until he reached age 14. His mother was a dominatrix.
This gave him twisted view on sexual interaction and brought him trouble already a few years after.
