• Biography

  My tale isn't a happy one. I was born a bastard, the result of an orc raid on a small fishing village. My mother died as a result of complications during my birth, so I never knew her. I grew up in the local orphanage, ridiculed and abused for my orcish appearance. I never really even had a name, I was nothing but a nuisance.
  
  At the age of 12, I ran away from the village, deciding to try my luck out in the world. I didn't think it could get any worse... Within days, I was captured by a group of slavers that sold me off to a wealthy man, one with a particular interest in underground fighting arenas. I spent the next several years enduring torturous training, fighting for scraps, and working my way up in the arena. For the first time, my orcish heritage was something other than a curse. I learned to hone my anger and use it in battle. It gave me the resilience necessary to survive and even thrive in that hell. The man became my dominus and I was loyal to him. He rewarded me for victory, he even gave me my name, Ur'Rok. He said that it was the name of one of the greatest gladiators of the previous age, a champion who gained the spoils of a king and bought his own freedom. It gave me hope. I embraced the arena and set my mind on victory.
  
  So what, you think I earned the spoils of a king? *guttural chuckle* You think I purchased my freedom and lived happily ever after? *grunt* You'd be wrong if you did.
  
  No.. The man who came to become the closest thing to a parent I ever knew was assassinated by a rival. Most of my brother gladiators were slain, but I managed to escape in the confusion. Once again, I had nothing. The glory I had earned died with my fallen house. I was in such a rage that I don't recall the immediate details after that.
  
  I remember waking up in a gutter on the side of a road. I must have run all night, maybe for days, my body was sore and bloody. I heard a struggle, the sound of screams. At first I hid, but then I saw the origin, a wagon being assaulted by a small group of bandits... I became infuriated. I was fed up with seeing the weak exploited by the powerful, the injustice. I was no longer helpless to stop it. I charged the bandits, grabbing one and breaking his body. The others ran. I asked if everyone was okay, before passing back out from fatigue.
  When I woke again, I was in the back of a wagon being mended. The group of travelers took me in. I served as a bodyguard in return for food and shelter.
  
  Now I've been a shield for hire for the last few years. I never stay in one place too long, and I do my best to protect those that cannot protect themselves. It's not a glorious life, but I make enough money to survive. I've heard many tales from companion travelers over the years. Tales of adventure, riches, and objects and creatures of great power. In recent months I have begun to want more purpose out of life. I seek glory and to change this cruel world for the better.
