  Liam Wells' life was not going the way he'd planned. To be fair, he seriously doubted that anybody had planned for their lives to go this way. Sure, there were some people out there who planned their lives around any number of disasters that may or may not happen at any given time. But the dead getting up, walking around, and eating their neighbors? Liam, at least, had never been prepared for something of that magnitude. And yet, here he was. Alone, no less.
  
  That was something else he hadn't really been counting on - being alone. He'd gotten out of the city with Marie, and they'd managed to make their way to his family's old cabin. They'd lasted a month and a half, before she vanished one day while he was out on a supply run. He'd since torn up the short note he'd left him, tossed the pieces in the fire. Don't look for me. Right. Like he was going to listen to that. He couldn't imagine any sort of scenario where she would have simply left him with no more explanation than that. But after nearly two solid months of expending almost all of his energy searching for any trace of her, he'd given up. She didn't want to be found. She didn't want to while away the apocalypse with him. So he'd started to set his mind toward the last thing he had left - survival.
  
  During his desperate search for Marie, he'd come across Lakeside Farm. It was the first secure place he'd seen, besides his cabin, since the end of the world began. They'd been kind enough to let him stay with them while he continued to search. And when he'd finally given up, they'd tossed him a metaphorical rope. If he put in a little work around the farm, he could stay for as long as he liked.
  
  That's where he was now. Working the farm, scavenging supplies, trying to forget the past and look toward the future.
