  • Hogwarts, here I come! August 22nd 2049

    I'm quite excited. At last I get to leave dreary London public schools behind and go to a real Wizarding school! I know my mother thought it best I experience all sides of life, but Muggle schools have to be some kind of torture. I was better off when she was tutoring me at the book shop. I suppose you can't have lads my age just lurking about but it was quite nice to be with her. At any rate, that is all behind me now. I'm finally going to see the famous Hogwarts School, and get sorted into a proper house and all that. My mother was a Ravenclaw and thinks I'm a shoe-in for that house, but I'm keeping my mind open. You never know what can happen!
    
    Another neat thing, as a celebration of my acceptance, I got to pick out my own proper pet! Not one that I found in the cellar or something. A real, from-a-shop pet. I decided on Peepers. He had a smart look behind his eyes. He is white, with a black "hood", and his eyes are black too. I would have liked a rat with green eyes like mine, but apparently their eyes are only black or red. At least that's what the shop keeper said.
    
    While we were out shopping, I got to pick out my wand from Oliviander's. Or rather, the wand got to pick me. There were a few close matches, but the one that won out in the end is Cypress wood. It's eleven inches and has a unicorn hair core. I'm not really sure what all that means, but it's MY VERY OWN WAND. I'm thrilled to bits. I'm tempted to see if I can use it to transform Peepers into something, but Mum says that's very advanced magic. Besides, I wouldn't want to hurt him. I've already taught him two tricks. I was right, he is a very smart rat!
    
    I guess I should get back to studying. Mum picked up my books and I just can't help seeing what kinds of lessons I'll be doing when I get there.
