Destined

• Luc grew up with his single mother in the occult shop she ran herself out of the lower level of their home. It was filled with all sorts of books, candles, and cards, and Luc enjoyed learning about them all. Their house was on the same street as the town's library, so he spent more of his time there than he did trying to make friends. Most of the socialization he got from outside school was going with his mother to any community volunteer work she did, which was often.
  
  He never outgrew his solitude. He loves connecting with other people when he can, but it just doesn't happen often. People that Luc puts his time and energy into caring for have always seemed to up and leave or drift away from him. He doesn't like to linger on it, though. After all, it isn't like his books would be leaving him anytime soon.
  
  With his grades never being very good he didn't feel compelled to attend college after graduating high school. He became happy with the jobs he could get, now satisfied with his current position at a pet supply shop. Luc got his own little apartment that he only visits to sleep in, which isn't very often with his reoccurring insomnia.
  
  Said insomnia is a large part of why Luc is now in trouble. It was late at night and he was restless, so he decided he would read under a streetlight in the park. It was warm enough, and it wasn't a dangerous area, so there wasn't a reason he could think of as to why he shouldn't. It wasn't long after midnight that not wearing headphones would have been a good idea. He could have heard the howling, or heavy breathing barreling towards him, but he didn't.
  
  Luc didn't know what hit him. One moment he was reading in the dim orange light and the next he was pinned to the ground, everything turning dark and red. It felt like his chest was being slashed open, but soon after the shape on top of him was knocked away and everything went black. He woke up at sunrise, laying in the grass covered in blood and his shirt in tatters. However, he didn't seem to have a scratch on him.
  
  He took himself home and checked himself over, but he couldn't find anything wrong. Not knowing what to do he decided to ignore it and get ready for work. As time went on, though, Luc began to notice odd things happening. Any injury he got would heal almost instantly, and the hair on his chest was growing thicker. His gums and eyes continuously itched, no matter how much allergy medication he took. He didn't get too concerned about it until he caught his reflection late one night in the bathroom mirror and saw his eyes glowing golden back at him.
  
  Now it was time to panic.
