    The fair-skinned woman sat in the stillness reserved for artificial creatures and the dead. She constantly kept time from the first day she opened her eyes. No surprise this synthetic being, turned to music to bring some beauty to the utilitarian sound of her heart.

    In addition to the storybook clothing she wore (marking her as a bard and intellectual), she carried an additional accessory: a rich, brown violin carried on her back in a supple leather case.

    In spite of this, the girl stands nearly indistinguishable from a human girl--the same flowing, blond hair, the same sparkling blue eyes. The only differences required investigation: the mechanical ball-and-socket joints that enabled her movement, a plate on her back with a hole in it that wound her mechanism, and that beautiful alabaster skin that was crafted of a satin-finish porcelain.
