Family Backstory

• The Family Business

  Daren Chase is perhaps one of the world's finest time keepers. A chronomancer who has learned that time is truly of the essence. But for all his ability and huge magic workings with time, he lacks the ability to see forward in time or to change history. His tinkerings within the present have resulted in a few, greatly desired charms that can slow a moment down, speed one up, or skip it altogether--fast forwarding a week. Daren has made both a living and a great deal of acclaim for himself by marketing and selling his gadgets.
  
  He married Clarissa when he was 21; she 18. They had four sons whom Daren was exceptionally fond of. Darien, the oldest, beganto exhibit fire magic when he was 12; Ralen, telekinesis when he was 13; Zane, water magic at 12; and then Arien. When Arien passed his 12th birthday with no signs of magic, Daren lost hope and decided to train his three sons in the family business. When Arien passed his15th birthday and continued to not show signs of possessing magic, Daren and his three sons disowned him.
  
  Clarissa, fearing that Arien would be unable to take care of himself, moved with him, and thus severed her ties with Daren. Since then, Arien has taken to wearing his blue cloak as a reminder of what he left behind--or what was denied him when he failed to possess any powers whatsoever. Until he reached the prime age of 18, whereupon he began to have "black-outs" that were the beginning of his teleportation magic kicking in.
  
  His brothers and father have yet to know about his magical ability, but only because he strives to keep it a secret from them. He avoids his brothers as best he can, because they were cruel to their youngest, ungifted brother.
