Okay, so I personally enjoy dice use in RP. I know that's not everyone's cup of tea, but I truly think it helps prevent encounters from being too predictable. That said, using dice to resolve pokemon battles is something of an... undertaking.

I absolutely adore Heimdall's dice system for pokemon battles: https://www.rprepository.com/c/bro/195660 so I'll probably refer to it in RPs where a battle becomes major focus/plot point. Because what's the point of a pokemon RP without battles (or contests, if that's more your style).

In RP where battles take a backseat, I propose the following quick-play rules, using whatever dice you're comfortable with:
1. Speed gets determined by a contested roll between each pokemon fighting; high roll hits first.
2. Each vs. is broken up into three "rounds", so each set of pokemon gets 3 rolls to determine overall success. Tally scores and higher number wins that match.
3. Repeat steps one and 2 until one trainer has no pokemon available to fight.
As always, RP allows for some creative liberties; just because there are three dice rounds doesn't mean the fight only took three attacks from each pokemon. Maybe it was a hard-fought slug-fest. Maybe it was a single, overwhelming blast. Details are up to participants.
--This can also be simplified further by deciding that each trainer only gets 3 rolls to determine the entire battle. Tally scores as normal.

Unfortunately, not all battles are of major importance (looking at you, zubats of the sea) so I wouldn't want to expand on them too much in writing. For things like wild encounters/grinding levels, I'll use two six-sided dice. One dice determines success (1-3 is fail, 4-6 is pass), the other determines degree (1-2 is with difficulty, 3-4 is neutral, 5-6 is with ease). So a success with difficulty might leave your team exhausted and in need of a PC, a success with ease could see you continuing throught the route at top speed, and a failure with ease could be a clean wipeout of your team (should've stayed out of that darker grass...).

I also like to add a "Challenge Rating" bonus to rolls, at least for the quick-play rules. Ratings are as follows:

Low: Youngsters, Preschoolers, early-game rivals (-1 to rolls for inexperience)
Mid: Most type specialists, Rising Stars, early Ace Trainers, Rivals (no bonus)
High: Gym leaders, Ace Trainers, Veterans, Core story NPCs, post-game Rivals (+1 for talent/exp)
Master: E4 members, Battle Frontier/Battle Chateau trainers, League Champions (+2 for exp)
BEASTMODE: Post-game challenge trainers (*cough, cough* Red), World Tournament competitive trainers. (+3 for punishment)

So, if you want to use these rules, go for it! If not, no worries - I'm not gonna force it.
