Mortimer Capshett

History

• Biography

  Born in the Desert to a nomadic tribe as Kaleem Gnemalo his magical potential was discovered early when as a youth he traumatized himself by accidentally summoning illusionary copies of himself. Questioning whether or not he was the real Kaleem his parents found help for him at one of the Magica Tower Academies, a prestigious human school of magical learning. There the boy was studied and given aid and training until his powers could fully manifest.
  
  It was discovered that Kaleem was a Blue Mage, a magic user who could only learn their craft through experience and tactile sensation. For instance, seeing and hearing a fire be ignited may spark the blue magic to be able to light his own fire magically. Each new ability he mimics from experience is etched onto his skin and added to his repertoire of spells, which was wholly an accident and was caused by Kaleem (in a fit of rage) ripping pages from his spellbook and devouring them after a particularly difficult lesson.
  
  Once comfortable in with his abilities and back in control of his mind he set out from the school, adventuring for a long while with a group of (for lack of a better phrase) murderous vagabonds and hunting for treasure. The group had made their way to one of the partly submerged pyramids of the Pala Swamplands and had done a fine job ransacking it when from beneath the murky waters rose a horde of the undead! Taking refuge in the pyramid Kaleem and his group were separated in the winding halls and after nearly a week was finally able to regroup and fight their way out.
  
  Once back to safety Kaleem left the group, striking on his own and renaming himself as Mortimer Capshett. Some who know of him say it was a symbolic rebirth so he could make his own way, others think something happened in the Swampland that deeply unsettled him. Whatever the case may be Mortimer has been traveling ever since, hunting after a set of Artifacts called the Quietus Collection. These artifacts were rumored to be the last remnants of the first magic user and their names are whispered in hushed tones since according to legend the last time more than two were together a great calamity befell the area now known as the Barrens forcing everything alive to flee the cursed lands or die.
  
  To this day the Barrens are said to be cursed but Mortimer believes if he can study the artifacts he can learn what makes them work and avoid another calamity, perhaps even making them able to be wielded to create instead of destroying. Only time will tell, and until that day he travels and showboats, learning and trading and making his way the only way he knows how.
