EVEN A PRIEST CAN QUESTION HIS FAITH ___________________________________________ Tristan Forester always knew what he wanted. Growing up as the youngest child, he always looked up to his father, the local pastor, and he decided very early on that he wanted to continue his legacy. This worked out well with his older siblings, who didn't have the same ambitions as him, both wanting to go in very different directions and have nothing to do with the church. For Tristan though, he felt safe being next to his dad, and he basically grew up in the church dreaming about being the one to guide people from there in the future. It always seemed like it called to him - he always had this strange, tingling feeling in his body that seemed to intensify from time to time, and he quickly linked this to no other than God. What else could it be? His parents told him the same when he confided in them about this strange feeling that sometimes seemed to consume him, and it just felt right. Tristan was always a nice, quiet child, never made an unnecessary sound, very polite and well-mannered. He was always praised by his parents and others. He was never the rebellious child, never felt the urge to do so, making him an easy target for school bullies, which made somewhat of an impact on the young Tristan, but he was not without support and friends, which was what helped him through and beyond it. His childhood was otherwise easy and simple, being the "easy" child of three, annoying the older siblings because of that, but still growing up in a loving home. As soon as he could, he applied for university to study theology. That was his calling, he felt it, very literally. That feeling grew as he got older, like a constant tingling in his fingers, but he always felt like it was simply God manifesting himself within him, only making his belief stronger, though he rarely shared this with anyone. He knew what people felt about these kind of things, so only his family knew about it, mostly his parents, maybe a few friends. He aced through university, just like he did with school, managing a first even during his second year, and as soon as he finished his BA, he wanted to work. He wanted to go back to his parents, back to the local church he remembered so fondly, and so he did. He returned to his parents, like most of his friends did, but something felt off. It was like that feeling inside of him called him somewhere else, as if he had to get away from Stroud. It wasn't easy, feeling at home with his parents, finally back, but he decided to follow his godly gut feeling. He moved away, moved south of London, found his own little city, and it felt good. He took out a loan, bought a house, started his apprenticeship with the local church, and everything went as it should. He gained friends and a good reputation, quickly becoming a fully fledged priest at the church, though only a second to the pastor, but he didn't mind. He wanted to stay with his family, but it just felt like the right place, and that feeling increased by the years. These days, something seems to change: The tingling that has always been there, the feeling that left him feeling closer to God, has once again set off. It is as if it's trying to tell him that something is about to happen, that he should move, but he has no idea why. Right now, he has no interest in moving away from what feels like home, but he feels that something is about to happen and he does not like the feeling. |
○ K I N D
adj. | kind Of a sympathetic or helpful nature. The first impression of Tristan you will get is probably his kind manner and aura. He simply has this feeling to him that he cares and would love to help others without any particular reason. That's just the person he is, and he loves helping out where he can, even if it's not much, but he also has a tendency of doing too much, even for a stranger, making his kindness close to being naive. |
○ T I M I D
adj. | tim·id Lacking in courage or self-confidence. Though Tristan is very kind, he is of a very timid character, just easy-going and slow to approach. It's easier if someone comes to him, though he's not afraid to take action if needed. It's not that he's lacking confidence in himself, it's just his nature really, and he never really thinks about the fact that he's a bit more withdrawn than most people. |
○ C O N C E R N E D
adj. | con·cerned Anxious, worried. His mother always told him that he was a very worried child, and though he mostly laughs it off, he knows that he's very much the same still. Linked with his kind nature, he has a tendency to be overly concerned about others. He likes to stay in touch with people because of this, but it also gives him a great sense of detail, and he will most likely remember your name even if he has only met you once. He listens, because he cares, because he's concerned about you - and people like to open up to him because of that. |
○ S E N S I T I V E
adj. | sen·si·tive Highly responsive or susceptible, such as easily hurt or damaged; especially easily hurt emotionally. Tristan has always been rather sensitive compared to others. Not that he takes things personally easily, he has build up a rather good understanding of others to not take things to literal, but when he's hurt, it probably goes deeper than with others. It's harder when it's by people he knows, but the same goes for strangers. It's not something he thinks about, it just happens - like a small sting in his chest that he cannot get rid of. |
