  Racial Traits

  
  The Elves of the Starless Wood. Nestled between mountains, a deep and dark shaded forest is rooted. A thick veil of dark magical fog veils this ancient forest in a constant darkness, twisting the life forms that dwell within. Rumors say that this forest has survived since the beginning of time and is so deep, the trees stand hundreds of feet tall, their canopy clouding what precious light can reach the forest floor. All manner of beasts dwell within, as do fey for the boundaries between the material plane and the feywilds grows weak in this shadowy forest.
  
  How these elves came to dwell within such a place isn't known. Some debate is had whether they were once wood elves, contorted and twisted by the magics of the wood or dark elves, come to live and so to changed to adapt to this accursed forest. Even the elves themselves keep their nature close, unwilling to share their origins with the world. Many have come to think of them as a form of Drow due to their harsh matriarchy and court although some suspect a connection between the Court of Stars and this place.

  You create up to four torch-sized lights within range, making them appear as torches, lanterns, or glowing orbs that hover in the air for the duration. You can also combine the four lights into one glowing vaguely humanoid form of Medium size. Whichever form you choose, each light sheds dim light in a 10-foot radius.
  
  As a bonus action on your turn, you can move the lights up to 60 feet to a new spot within range. A light must be within 20 feet of another light created by this spell, and a light winks out if it exceeds the spell's range.

  ◇ Faerie Fire (Source: Starless Magic)
  Each object in a 20-foot cube within range is outlined in blue, green, or violet light (your choice). Any creature in the area when the spell is cast is also outlined in light if it fails a Dexterity saving throw. For the duration, objects and affected creatures shed dim light in a 10-foot radius.
  
  Any attack roll against an affected creature or object has advantage if the attacker can see it, and the affected creature or object can't benefit from being invisible.

  ◇ Alarm
  You set an alarm against unwanted intrusion. Choose a door, a window, or an area within range that is no larger than a 20-foot cube. Until the spell ends, an alarm alerts you whenever a Tiny or larger creature touches or enters the warded area. When you cast the spell, you can designate creatures that won't set off the alarm. You also choose whether the alarm is mental or audible.
  
  A mental alarm alerts you with a ping in your mind if you are within 1 mile of the warded area. This ping awakens you if you are sleeping.
  
  An audible alarm produces the sound of a hand bell for 10 seconds within 60 feet.

  You choose a creature you can see within range and mystically mark it as your quarry. If the target drops to 0 hit points before this spell ends, you can use a bonus action on a subsequent turn of yours to mark a new creature.
  
  At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd or 4th level, you can maintain your concentration on the spell for up to 8 hours. When you use a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you can maintain your concentration on the spell for up to 24 hours.

  You gain the ability to comprehend and verbally communicate with beasts for the duration. You might be able to persuade a beast to perform a small favor for you, at the GM's discretion.

  ◇ Darkness (Source: Starless Magic)
  Magical darkness spreads from a point you choose within range to fill a 15-foot-radius sphere for the duration. The darkness spreads around corners. A creature with darkvision can't see through this darkness, and nonmagical light can't illuminate it.
  
  If the point you choose is on an object you are holding or one that isn't being worn or carried, the darkness emanates from the object and moves with it. Completely covering the source of the darkness with an opaque object, such as a bowl or a helm, blocks the darkness.
  
  If any of this spell's area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled.

  ◇ Find Traps
  You sense the presence of any trap within range that is within line of sight. A trap, for the purpose of this spell, includes anything that would inflict a sudden or unexpected effect you consider harmful or undesirable, which was specifically intended as such by its creator. Thus, the spell would sense an area affected by the alarm spell, a glyph of warding, or a mechanical pit trap, but it would not reveal a natural weakness in the floor, an unstable ceiling, or a hidden sinkhole.
  
  This spell merely reveals that a trap is present. You don't learn the location of each trap, but you do learn the general nature of the danger posed by a trap you sense.

  A veil of shadows and silence radiates from you, masking you and your companions from detection. A creature that receives this bonus leaves behind no tracks or other traces of its passage.

  ◇ Flame Arrows
  You touch a quiver containing arrows or bolts. When a target is hit by a ranged weapon attack using a piece of ammunition drawn from the quiver, the target takes an extra 1d6 fire damage. The spell’s magic ends on the piece of ammunition when it hits or misses, and the spell ends when twelve pieces of ammunition have been drawn from the quiver.
  
  At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the number of pieces of ammunition you can affect with this spell increases by two for each slot level above 3rd.

  Like many beasts of the Starless Wood, the Starless Fallow Deer are one of the most intelligent as deer go. Bigger and surprisingly charismatic, they can often be compared to fey in their mischievous attitude. Their pelts are a deep brown with white bellies, The spots upon their back give off a near unnatural iridescent sheen. Herds often graze in the deeper sections of the forests, where the elves of the Starless Wood often travel to tame these elegant beasts as mounts. Due to their charismatic nature, they are easy to get along with and will develop a bond with a willing unless mistreated or abused.
