• Biography

  Ervig had a pretty commonplace beginning. A peasant boy brought up in a peasant family that had for as long as any of them could remember been peasants. He didn’t have much skill with anything though he was known for being good at cutting wood and a bit of hunting experience. He had no high expectations for himself and had no grand goals other than continuing the traditions of his father and making a family of his own. That all changed in his mid-twenties. He had been generally unsuccessful in courting any of the available women of the village and his future wasn’t exactly looking as bright as he would like. Hoping to show his worth he went deeper into the forest then he had ever gone before and it was far from home that he heard her. Her singing was so soft and majestic that he was entranced by it. He followed the sound of her voice until he found a large and grand willow tree. Beneath the tree sitting in a ring of red toadstools sat the young girl with beauty the likes he had never seen before. He couldn’t get his eyes off her as he immediately called out to her, asking her to come to him.
  
  In response all she did was look at him and shake her head. She sung of how she could not leave where she remained and that she hoped he would not ask her to leave. Dejected at her rejection Ervig made his way back out of the forest but was adamant that he would return. The love that he felt for her was burning so strongly within his chest he knew that they were meant to be together. A few days later he had returned with the most beautiful flower that he could find. The flower was a bright golden yellow and he offered it to her immediately as he came under that old willow tree again. He told her of his love for her and wished to be her groom. With a shake of her head she denied him and his flower. Saying that she would never wed him ever, that she could never leave this place. She ended their conversation by once again asking him to not ask her to leave.
  
  Ervig left the forest again that day in a wallowing depression. But at home that depression turned to a boiling rage and anger. That damn willow tree was the reason she could not be with him. For sure it had trapped her beneath it. He had forced himself to believe that she did love him as much as he loved her but the evil spirit within that tree was keeping them apart. He got the family axe and sharpened it as much as he could. He marched back into the forest adamant on making that beautiful girl his wife. He knew that with her they would have beautiful children and have a perfect life. But when he arrived telling the maiden he would free her she only wept and hugged the willow tree. He ripped her off the tree and used his axe to fell the ancient willow tree. When it finally fell he looked to her and told her she was finally free to belong to only him.
  
  He grabbed her and dragged her out of the forest. But as soon as they came upon an open field she fell down upon the dirt. Her body soon faded away into nothing but a single bright flower, the remnant of something that was not meant to leave. Ervig fell to his knees and sobbed when he saw what had befallen his beloved. He cursed the gods and the world they had created for him to be so miserable in. Delirious in his sadness Ervig declared that it was the willow that had done this, the horrible machinations of the Fae kept his love from him. He picked up his axe and with it in hand he left his home in search of his love. In his mind she was somewhere out there, under a different tree waiting for him. This is what has birthed the legend of the Axeman.
  
  A being that has become the bane of the Fae. He comes upon forests humming the song that his beloved had sung him before. With somber eyes and gritted teeth he fells tree after tree, hunting all Fae and killing them. His vengeful spirit changed from one of humanity and he began to feed upon them. For all of his hatred of the Fae he himself had been changed from his rage and sorrow, becoming something supernatural himself. As he travelled more and destroyed all within his path his power grew and he changed in form and attire, his clothes and axe taking on an appearance to match the darkness that wallowed within.

• His Appearance

  The Axeman stands tall at 6' 5". When not covered from head to toe in his armor he can usually be seen wearing a rather worn looking padded tunic of dark earthen color with pants to match.
