Amelia Miller

Amelia is a young woman who has spent majority of her life in England, but now tries to make a life for herself in New York. Her mother is the typical American woman who fell for her father's elegant British dialect - and perhaps also his bank account. Their parents divorced when Amelia was 8 due to the lack of love, and Amelia's mother moved back to America, forcing Amelia to either choose a parent or fly back and forth. Until she turned 19, she chose the last option, and stayed in England as it was the safe and familiar option but when she found out that her father was partially earning his fortune through trafficking drugs, she moved to America and into a small apartment in New York. She has an older brother, but he realized early that traveling was his passion and for the past 5 years she has only communicated with him through facetime, but she is pretty close with him nonetheless.

She pays the rent by having 2 jobs. She works as a waitress at a small cafe during the day and as a bartender some evenings. It is convenient and working hours are flexible. She wanted to study, but she can't imagine how she could financially handle that, and the thought of being in debt for the first 30 years of her working life isn't that tempting.

Amelia is nothing special. She is not super intelligent, she does not consider herself strikingly beautiful, and she is neither an outsider nor popular. She's pretty normal. Mediocre even. The most special thing about her is, according to her, her first name, Aviana, which she never uses. Amelia is a more normal name, and therefore the name she uses. She may seem a little shy at first glance, but that's not entirely correct. Aloof or reserved might be more fitting and she is not the most committed partner to have a conversation with.
She has a pretty wide circle of friends, but she is not close to a single one of them. She might go out with a friend here and there, but she typically ends up disappearing in the bar or on the dance floor while her friends are looking for a flirt for the night. She is honestly fine with that, and it also happens that she goes out alone from the start. She is often weighed down by boredom and indifference, so the city is the perfect escape, and luckily for her, she lives quite centrally. It's not because she has anything against those who do, but she has never felt the need to try it out. She doesn't really trust people, so she has never let anyone get close enough to be able to hurt her. All in all, her life is rather basic and nothing important happens, but she enjoys the relatively simple way of life she's living right now, and she honestly doesn't care if people think she's unambitious or basic.
