The Serpentine are a race of carnivorous creatures previously thought to be in the stone age by scientists, and to be little more than monsters by the public.

First contact outside of silent observation from orbiting their snowy, cave ridden planet resulted in the complete loss of the expedition team. Black box records show the creatures able to reach speeds of up to nearly 87-Mph on foot, and tearing through reinforced body armor with teeth alone.

First peaceful contact resulted in several surprises. First, the creatures were completely sentient and completely aware of space travel and the possibility of existence past their planet. They theoretically could have been a spacebound race several hundred years ago if they cared to do so.
Second, while intelligent to the point of even being considered biological supercomputers, they have been content with their primitive hunting and tribal lifestyle for supposedly several thousand years.
Third, their oral history states that roughly two thousand years ago their ancestors were advanced enough to attempt travel between planets, but a civil war devastated their homeworld, violently changed the planet's climate and sent them spiraling back into the stone age.

Carnivorous, incapable of digesting most plant matter.

Cannibalistic, burial rituals often involve consuming the flesh of the dead, and wearing a knuckle bone as a necklace if they were lovers. Refusing to eat the dead can mean two things.
1: Complete disrespect for the deceased individual.
2: The dead individual was not respected in general such as criminals or enemies during war.

Matriarchal Society, males are nearly half the size of females and have intelligence on par with or lower than an average human. Males are treated more as pets or breeding partners than real individuals, and have no power at all in serpentine society or politics.

Sexuality, Female on Female relationships are extremely encouraged, and parenting is often done in this way after mating with a male. If the male has the respect of the pair of females, he is often allowed a space in the family as a sort of uncle role.

Serpentine are extremely physically affectionate, they theorize it originated from when the planet's climate first changed, and they had to stay huddled together to survive.

Stronger Females as of recently who have applied for implants have been known to be able to interface with and solo pilot small starships with the same ease that they would lift a finger. However, larger ships require a "Hive Mind" of 3 to 6 interconnected Serpentine depending on ship size. Testing is still ongoing but current tests show a 80% increase in ship response time, 76% decrease in mechanical errors due to negligence, and a possible decrease in essential ship staff.

Doctor Amari proposed using Serpentine as ship staff for Colonization vessels on a cross galaxy scale, allowing important staff to be cryogenically frozen alongside the rest of the ship.
