It was during the foreign occupation of Karth by the Gemstone Emperors that the Heroine was born on the 24th day of Frost Fall, in the small town of Simien.

Her mother is a faceless woman to Abdessi's memory. She has little knowledge of her, even less of her father. All that is known is that not long after the baby was born, she chose to leave the infant on the steps of Karine's temple rather than raise her as her own.

The truth: Her mother was the daughter of a poor rice farmer, who found herself pregnant after sweet talking sailor had left her behind to return once again to the sea. Having been disillusioned by the gift of motherhood she once craved, Abdessi's mother made the decision to dedicate her baby to the Temple of Karine to be raised as a priestess.

Abdessi has little memory of either parent, yet she holds no hostility towards them. Especially her mother, whom she believes did what she thought was best as she was unable to care for a child.
