Maverick Nightstar

Maverick was born in an unnamed reclusive village deep inside the forest where none usually wander. His loving Mother, Shana Nightstar took care of him for the first several years of his life. It's a time he still holds fondly as it was the only time he was truly happy. At a young age, Maverick had started playing with instruments he found around town and soon confessed to his mother that he wanted to pursue a career in music, which she wholeheartedly supported. She had even hand made a flute for him as that was all she knew how to make. Shana taught him to treat others the way he would want to be treated and began to shape him into an extraordinary person. All of that would work would be futile, however, as when his father, Travan Gemlight, came back to town after his long Journey, he had other plans for Maverick. Young Maverick couldn't tell, as this was the first time he met his father, but Shana had noticed something was wrong with her husband. Something happened to him out there, but what it was is still shrouded in mystery. Travan started to put Maverick on a strict schedule so that he could "train him to take them on." Whenever he messed up his dad would hit him despite Shanas pleas. Travan had also abused his wife if she ever tried to intervene with his training. Maverick began to act up so that he would be hit instead of his mother because all he wanted was her happiness. One day, Travan took Maverick far away from the village so that he could fight something other than his father. While there, his father sensed something and told him to run and hide, Maverick did as he was told and hid. As he listened he heard his father arguing with someone but couldn't hear anything. Then came silence and after waiting a few more moments, Maverick made his way out of his hiding spot and saw his dad lying on the ground, but no one else in sight. Maverick quickly ran to his side and called out for his dad, but he didn't get an answer back. He should have been sad, but he couldn't bring himself to cry. He was more relieved than anything to know that his mother would not hurt anymore. Maverick decided to examine Travans body and food him clutching a gold coin. Taking a closer look at the coin, it had a crow engraved on it and the other side was a flat gold surface. He knew the coin had to have something to do with his dad's death, so he kept it and ran back home. There, he broke the news to his mother and was surprised to see her break down in tears. Maverick...couldn't feel anything for what just happened, but his mother was sad...no, crying...for the man that just abused them. At the time he didn't understand that she had been crying about his old self, someone Maverick only hears about in stories.
