The Sun

  • From the moment you laid eyes on the mortal man- well, you saw he wasn’t mortal. Long winding horns around his head, an uncomfortable twinkle in his eyes. Not to mention the long tail that dragged down to the ground behind him, glimmering in pale white. The further you got, it began to look translucent, flecks of gold, white and blue swimming in the pale color. Short pointed ears, a strange set of teeth when he smiled- almost like fangs. No, that was clearly no mortal man, and everyone around simple shrugged it off. Perhaps they were more accustomed to his strange appearance.

    He smiled when he realized you were watching him- his long tail flicked in what you could’ve assumed was entertainment, but really was a thinly veiled expression of annoyance. Foreigners always stared too much- he’d worked to blend in as best he could, even adopting this small humanoid body to keep tabs on the half-Suva gladiator he’d grown fond of. It was a body he could use to be closer to her, and he worked hard to keep those around him from making a scene- and here you were, gawking like this was the first time you’d ever seen such a man.

    “Anyone ever tell you it’s impolite to stare?” The words fell past his lips like honey but you could feel the venom at the end of the sentence, his slitted pupils narrowing as he stood, “You’re in my coliseum, you ought to show some respect.”

When she returns, he will never let her go.
