Rishell Samson

Rishell Samson is a character that I created six years ago when I was a freshman in High School. I got hyper-fixated on this character even though I never was that deep into the Author world, but I just could not sleep until she was finished. The majority of her magic abilities were created on that initial night, but it took a few months of nitpicking and editing to get her perfect enough to satisfy that creative itch in the back of my head. Little did I know back then that Rishell and her sister Sage were foils of myself, and were going to help me get through my teenage years in high school.

When Sage was seven, her mother gave birth to a baby girl with a glowing blue iris. Everyone was shocked. Since her parents were religious they immediately wanted to purge Rishell of this anomaly, but Sage sensed the danger in this early. Sage grabbed her bicycle and put Rishell in the basket, never looking back. Staying with relatives was also unsafe because now these girls were considered "lost." There was a heavy reward over their heads so people usually lied and turned ratted them. As they evaded longer and got older, news programs were no longer concerned with "lost girls" but "armed and dangerous fugitives." Her magic system is based on her emotions; the classic "anger brings fire and sadness brings water" type tropes. However, when she experiences those types of emotions, her iris glows which exposes what emotion she's feeling to the outside world. So she doesn't freak out the general public, who are canonically not used to unusual people, she covers her eye up with an eyepatch constantly. This secret is extremely difficult to keep, especially in her teenage years. Around this time teens are already having mood swings, but with the addition of an emotionally based power system, little situations can cause a whole flare-up in emotions. These episodes cause small earthquakes and fires sometimes with can cause a lot of damage in a crowded place. Due to all of this, Ris and Sage never stay in one place for more than a few months.
