Growing up in the rural Soath had it's advantages. There was plenty of space, it was quiet and.. it was quiet. Lots of quiet and not much to do meant she had to find something to do, and that something was reading old Hard Boiled Detective novels of.. varying quality. She got into them young (probably younger than she should have) and never looked back. Her mother was the crime novel aficionado and her father was a mega Noir nut.. and so she dived headfirst into both.

As such it didn't really come as much of a surprise when growing up all Joelle wanted to do was become a Private Detective, though it was slightly more surprising when she kept that ambition well into her teens and eventually bit the bullet. Not that surprising though.. after all, her parents only had themselves to blame.

Unlike her literature heroes however Joelle skipped the police force, and quickly found out how valuable that experience could be. She had essentially jumped head first into the deep end, and the first couple of years were.. rough, to put it lightly. Even small time stuff was a daunting task, and her dismal financial situation certainly reflected as much. Just like her heroes however she was resilient, or stubborn depending on who you asked. She stuck with it and gave every single case her all, from missing dogs to disloyal wives. She got her ass kicked plenty of times, and she had a feeling if she was a man it would have been a much more frequent occurrence. Eventually she found her groove however, years of experience in the little leagues had at least given her an idea of what to expect and as she racked up more and more experience, she eventually started to make a name for herself. She was no Sherlock Holmes, but she could finally afford an office and the money to have three square meals a day. Chinese takeaway never tasted so good, it tasted like victory... and soy sauce, but the victory was the important part

I'm not tied to a specific setting or genre so much as I'm tied to Noir styling. Whether it be Classic Noir, the Neo-Noir revival, genres inspired by Noir like Cyberpunk or something that takes aesthetic inspiration and little more from Noir, chances are I'm interested. It doesn't even have to be a Noir flavour so long as it shares enough of it's DNA
