BACKSTORY OF PADSHA AND THE BUILDING OF THOMYRI

The capital of Padsha was founded by steppe people. Spearheaded by the woman who united the clans of Shnash Gurm, Thomyri was a force to be reckoned with. She drove raiders and mercenaries from the lands, before settling her people along the southern parts of Padsha. A river cut through the lands there, offering up fertile land for people to grow crops.

The settlements flourished and soon merged into a village that then became a town, and then a city.

Thomyri died at the height of the progress towards a completely unified Padsha. Her successor was named as her oldest daughter, Apia. Where her mother controlled the steppe people and understood their plights, Apia was more focused on the economic progress that could be made from having people living in a stationary place rather than nomadic clans. In the honor of her mother, Apia named the capital of Padsha after her.

As more focus was being put on sustaining a city, some of the steppe people broke off from this stationary life-style to pursue their nomadic lives once again. It caused a divide between people, alienating them from each other no sooner than they had been unified. Apia had the foresight to look outwards. While Padsha didn't have much to offer in terms of trade goods, Apia tried to attract foreign thinkers and artists with the promise of freedom. She succeeded in doing so.

Apia's rule was considered by many to be just as important as her mother's. Without her, Padsha could never have cemented itself as a place of learning and art. Her successor was her second eldest son, Katiari, who perfected what her mother had started.

JAVEED THE PRINCE

Javeed, one of the great-grandchildren of Thomyri, was considered by many to be destined for greatness. Perhaps not the throne, for that was said to be promised to his oldest sister, but he had the makings of a great man in him. As the city flourished with its production of arts and philosophy, Javeed was introduced to many different opinions and people from an early age. He became a patron of the arts, especially supportive of theater.

As he grew, Javeed became more critical of his siblings, thinking none of them would truly be fit for the throne. His oldest sister, Delkash, struck him as somebody too focused on herself to be able to serve the needs of the people. While he would never openly criticize her, he opinions were known in his close circles. It was clear that Javeed himself became more and more interested in the throne.
