• Description

  Nyx, Harborer of Flame
  A member of the Nektann race, or rather what remains of it. His race has many humanoid characteristics. He has a very pallid skin tone, and dark grey eyes that are extremely sensitive to light and heat, forcing him to wear eye protection, aside from in low-light conditions. He normally wears a silkinum (a metal as soft and wavy as silk, mined on his home world of Aranos) which provides protection. He carries an old-fashioned whetstone with him at all times, as well as his Skana, (a Nektann combat knife, with a 7" handle and an 8" blade made of neurotic titanium) which he has had since his childhood years (from around 10 to 50 in Nektann years, which is around 13 years in human age). He always wears tight but maneuverable black combat pants, which he carries any assorted items he may find necessary. He wears black boots, which are about shin-height and crafted of leather and silkinum. When he isn't in Inner-Earth, he always carries around his Bunakari rifle (a custom-built human sniper rifle, which fires heated anti-material bullets. He has 471 notches engraved on the stock of it, one for every kill he has made. One notch lies on the barrel, representing a special kill.) For assault missions, he carries a Nakryotic energy rifle with a clip that regenerates itself after firing 50 rounds. The energy burns 4-5 inch holes in anything it hits. During jobs, he wears a special multi-lens face mask, which he uses for both protection against light and to enhance his perception. This allows him to see distant targets, and mark them, as well as assess threats. During jobs he also has a specially-made suit of combat armor which allows him to both be stealthy and protected. His combat armor also allows him to blend into any surface he chooses. He has the ability to manipulate any source of heat or flame nearby him, but only to a certain extent. This gives him possibilities for crowd control and combat.

• Biography

  Nyx was cast out of his society at the very young age of 70 (about 15 in human age). The cause for his banishment is unclear, yet it seems as though there was timing and reason behind it. Just as he reached his destination world, Aranos was invaded by a race of unknown origin. Throughout his childhood, Nyx was most certainly a variant from the normal Nektann youth. The race's culture was typically very aggressive and militant, Nyx's nature was much less so. He was singled out for being much faster and smarter than the rest of his peers, although he absolutely hated and still does hate receiving any attention for his actions, good or bad. His race in general has a high sensitivity to heat and light as far as vision goes, although his vision and sensitivities to light and heat have been somehow abnormally intensified, forcing him to wear eye protection during daytime hours or in bright areas. After he was banished from his home world, he was exiled to a planet where history was very unclear on his home planet; Earth. There, he took shelter with a group of refugees from the Vernakkt War (9013-9032)in the year of 9022. The group of refugees were avoiding capture from Pahrak ground forces, which had control of roughly half of Earth (see bottom for brief explanation of the Vernakkt War). This group of refugees, the Resistance they called themselves, worked to drive the Pahrak out of the region of Earth known to them as Europe. Nyx agreed to aid the Resistance in the rebellion against the invading race, not so much as on his own free will, but because he faced execution if he chose to do otherwise. Nyx always has had a certain curiosity for the human race, although he does see them as inferior to the Nektann. The next several years were uneventful for Nyx, as the Resistance simply wanted to build itself in numbers and strength. In the year 9031, the Resistance had become much stronger, as far as intelligence and strength goes. The original group of refugees were still in command, although there was much protest against them. They decided that they were going to make a push for the Pahr-Huma Wall (a wall built by the human military to divide Earth between the Pahrak and humanity. As they mustered their forces, Nyx decided he was going to break away from the Resistance in the heat of battle. Hours after plans were made, the Resistance revealed itself and attacked. The assault itself was successful, and Nyx broke away, to explore the human side of Earth. He found some Earth credits and made his way into Inner-Earth (the inner and much more heavily populated portion of Earth, in the Northern Hemisphere. Weather here is typically dark and stormy, and the rare sunny day is cherished). In a nightclub in the inner, commercial area of a city known as New Boston, he met a woman named Cillete Nikor. She was an underground and very popular assassin, who won her recognition during the early years of the Vernakkt War by making certain Pahrak officials seemingly disappear. She took Nyx alongside her, due to his high agility, eyesight, and training. After a few jobs, Nyx began to become well known by the underground crime rings of Earth. As his career began to build up, he realized that Cillete had become the closest thing to family he ever had, and spent as much time as he could doing jobs with her. He began to kill political officials from other races, singlehandedly tearing down governments. In the year 9042, he was assigned a job by an underground crime ring that had a hatred for Cillete. The night he was assigned to this job, the kingpin of the ring had him on his knees with a shotgun to the back of his skull. "You must kill her, Nektann. Now go. You will be monitored. If we find you have not ended her life within 48 hours, you will die, as well as her. Cherish our mercy." Those were the words of the kingpin. Having no choice, he took the job. The next night, he showed up at Cillete's apartment in New Boston, nearby the nightclub where they met more than 20 years before. He knocked on her door, and came in. She offered him a seat, and he pulled his Skana and put it to her throat. A hand-to-hand battle ensued, resulting in Nyx's left forearm being gashed open by his own knife. Nyx eventually broke free of her, and kicked her onto the ground. He raised his rifle to her forehead, and bent over and wiped the blood out of her eyes. With a simple whisper of "I wish it could've been me", he pulled the trigger, ending the life of his mentor. Several days later, Nyx went berserk. He slaughtered the kingpin of the crime ring that forced him to kill her. He lives in New Boston now, spending much of his time in the seedy back-street nightclubs and taking the occasional hit job. Although the night he killed Cillete was many years ago, her death is always fresh on his mind. His past hasn't, and never will, leave him.

    "How fascinating! I did not think I would hear of any Nektann away from his home planet in my lifetime. In fact, to find any seems like a wonder on its own. I must say that I would enjoy broadening my horizon with deeper knowledge of your culture someday."
