• Background

  Erestor hails from the city of Azunor in the icy deserts far to the West. His people mastered the ability to control fire out of necessity as the land was far too cold to survive without it. They not only needed fire for warmth but also to be able to combat the many large nocturnal creatures that adapted to the icy environment. As was customary among his people, Erestor began his training in the ability to create and manipulate fire at the age of seven. This training normally ended at the age of twenty and the students were then given the title of Mage. Among his people, only one rank existed above the standard Mage: Archmage. Only seven could hold it at any given time and to earn it you had to defeat one who held it and take it from them. When he reached the age of eighteen he challenged an Archmage and defeated him, but he had not yet reached the age of twenty and earned the title of Mage. Despite excelling far beyond the level of his fellow students and possessing the power to defeat an Archmage, The High Council decided he would not be granted the title of Archmage and the man he defeated would keep it. He sought audience with the High Council, suggesting that training should end when each individual student had finished at their own pace. They denied this and maintained that centuries of tradition, in which thirteen years of training was required, would be upheld. In Erestor's brashness and immaturity, he lashed out in anger at the Council over their decisions and they exiled him from his homeland forever. Having not earned for himself the title of Archmage or even Mage, he left Azunor and ventured far to the East, never to return.
