  Sophia III was the name given to Yvette of the North after the death of her father. It was tradition that when a new royal takes the throne, they are given a new name. Sophia was popular among the royals of old. She was only the fourth woman to take the thrown solo in a 500 year empire.
  
  Yvette had been a quiet girl, but studious and observant. She knew as much about the goings on in court as the most dedicated gossip. She was a plain girl with unremarkable brown hair, a heart shaped face and brown eyes. She had fair skin that was speckled with freckles. Yvette had resigned herself to a quiet life in the great halls of her father, until they were attacked by barbarians from the west. Her father and brother were killed and she was thrust into a world she had only watched. She was nicknamed the Dead Queen, because it was believed that she would be dead within the week.
  
  However, Yvette was an intelligent woman. She surrounded herself with those she could trust, those loyal to her father and family. She set up a spy network of which she was the center. And, she found she had a flare for the theatrics. She ordered her hair to by dyed black, and she insisted on makeup that made her skin look like porcelain, "Death shall kiss my countenance" is how she described how she wanted the makeup to look. Where the other women of the court wore elaborate dresses and jewelry, she wore the attire of men, furs, breeches, tunics, and cloaks with clasps of amber. She became Sophia III when she donned her costume, taking a shrewd stand in all manners, though tempered with kindness. She showed her true face, that of a studious, quiet girl to a select few.
