Euros is a rookie officer in the Thousand Guardians, a sort of travelling volunteer police. It suits his personality to protect the vulnerable and meddle in other people's affairs, the former he learned to take on with pride, and the latter he was always a little too good at. As a youth he ran away to join the circus. Unfortunately, circuses in Euros' world are just funny-costumed crooks whose performances are only to distract from their swindles and put off inevitably being run out of town. The goodness* of his new family had little bearing on the goodness of his heart. This is likely why that, while stealing artifacts from a museum one night only to notice a more ruthless rival circus had the same idea--with hostages--he abandoned his clean getaway to rescue those in need and fight off their captors. They turned out to be members of the Thousand Guardians, who were very grateful for his help! Then they arrested him and he spent about a year in jail for trespassing and theft. It wasn't too troublesome from his point of view (free food, neat people) but the stretch was far too long for his crew to wait--by the time he got out, they were long gone. The Guardians weren't, though, and were willing to take a chance on his good character. Euros was referred to their headquarters for sponsorship and became a full officer less than a year later. |

On Halfbloods Halfbloods are humanoids of magical birth, usually from a union with an elemental or a normal pregnancy exposed to strong magic; whether or not they needed it to be born, they need it to live. They're naturally creative, magically-adept, and tend to have longer lifespans than their nonmagical parents. These qualities make them highly successful in long-term callings like teachers or artisans if their natural curiosity can be tamed. The different way they see (and are seen in) humanoid societies lead many to travel and form their own familial bonds; a rare few live entirely in the company of elementals, untethered from society in full. Even other halfbloods think those guys are weird. On the Thousand Guardians Thousand Guardians are a volunteer, commoner-led police force, sworn to uphold the law, but also expected to side with the oppressed and prioritize safety and reparations over cold justice. Most join through the nomination of existing Guardians who grant their badges to their successor when they retire, and in so doing, stake their legacy on the quality of their choice. It's strict but keeps those with the wrong motivations far away, and over time has fostered a culture of courage and character. The average Guardian cares deeply about keeping people safe and not much else. Don't agree to do their paperwork. |
