Brief History
Princess Noura bint Amjad ibn al-Zaman was born to queen Zeinab bint al-Zaman and king Calder of the Northern lands. Most of her childhood was spent in the capital of the Northern lands, where she was groomed to become Khalifah of the Southern land after the current Khalifah's spouse lost her child and life during childbirth. Queen Zeinab seized her brother's unfortune, claiming that only his wife had died in childbirth and that his daughter had survived - this was made possible due to Zeinab herself being pregnant and giving birth a few days later. The Queen promised her brother that she would give the girl a home and a mother for her first years, which the grieving Khalifah accepted with gratitude. The princess was raised in the Northern lands under the Khalifah's name, and her true heritage was only known to herself and her parents.
Knowing that she would succeed the Khalifah, princess Noura took her studies very seriously as a child. the King and Queen had the best teachers teach her about the politics of the Southern land, the religion she was supposed to follow and the etiquette. Shortly before she was due to depart for the Southern land, princess Noura donned a veil which covered both her hair and face upon the Khalifah's request. The conservative country expected her to stay hidden from the eyes of strangers, and she was careful to be sure that she only showed her face to family members.
Upon her arrival, she was received by Khalifa, Amjad ibn-Zaman ibn al-Nejem, who never warmed up to who he believed to be his estranged daughter. Their relationship was cold at best, and they only ever met when attending formal duties or him tutoring her to become Khalifah after him. She's known to the people as a pious woman of extraordinary beauty, although no one has ever laid eyes on what's beneath the veil.
Even though she was only able to lead a secluded life after her arrival to the Southern lands, princess Noura continued to write poetry and play music, although only her slave girls were able to listen to it.
