SW Unknown Regions

The Latchkey Hyperspace Lanes are a collective of hyperspace lanes in the Unknown Regions, which house the most hyperspace lanes in all of the Unknown Region, at least discovered so far. Originally ignored by the wider galaxy due to it lacking any strategic value, the lanes became a safe space for many who opposed the Galactic Empire as it rose to power, which in turn made them a target for Imperial assets seeking to route out these dissidents. The Empire has begun building fortifications along these routes and establishing patrols, however, as it is already spread thin, there are very few large capital ships at their disposal, as Imperial Star Destroyers are redirected to other locations in the galaxy that require more attention. Thus, rebelling forces have a greater chance to fight back and protect their assets than any other sector in the Galaxy. Of course, that comes with the many dangers of traveling in the Unknown Regions...

Currently, the Unknown Regions in and around the Latchkey Lanes are facing a three-way conflict, between the Black Hand Crime Syndicate, the Galactic Empire, and the Freeworld Movement. Unlike most Rebel groups, the Freeworld Movement had no desire to reform the Republic, and simply want to have independence from both the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. This group gains a lot of support and traction from former Separatist worlds, and believe that the Republic was flawed and restoring it will only leave it vulnerable to being corrupted or destroyed once again.
