• Description

  A tank of an Au Ra at 6"6, Vel wears his body language and mannerisms with an aggressive, isolating air about him. His downward pointing black horns immediately identify him as a Xaela Au Ra, if his unnaturally dark, almost purple skin doesn't. His hair is a light shade of crimson and usually kept either straight to the side or in a large ponytail tied behind his head. His eyes are a sharp yellow flanked by limbal rings that are a deep blood red meant to create a sense of distrust and unnerving. To complete the sense of being a wild killer, even his teeth have been filed to razor sharp points.

• Biography

  Born to the outsider-friendly Kha tribe, Veluren's familial unit was one of merchants who roamed both the steppes and the coastlines trading with others. At eight years of age, their traveling party was wiped out by Dotharl tribe raiders, only Veluren and his mother escaping. Fleeing for shelter she found the rest of the raiding party had broken off to attack, forcing the tribe away. With no other option, she fled with her child to Doma to try to find somewhere safe.
  
  Eventually they settled with the Moonstriker clan, a Doman group who believed that before written time an ancient figure known reverently as simply "The Moonstriker" shot down other rogue moons before the real moon and Dalamud and held a contest every generation to shoot an aether-infused arrow at the moon for the right to be adressed by title rather than name. Though infatuated, Vel decided to not participate even though he was allowed to in favor of a childhood friend who protected him from the less-tolerant children who tried to bully him.
  
  Growing sick of being saved by the girl who he had grown fond of and wanting to see her succeed when the contest began anew and she participated, Veluren was allowed Ninja training by the clan and honed his body and skills for the day when he would join her. The contest began and she went ahead to the land of Eorzia where Aether overflows while Vel finished up his training. Once done, he followed.
  
  His steps led him to Ishgard. After sneaking into the city he looked and looked but was unable to find her. His presence only just barely tolerated among the Ishgardians, he was harassed by temple knights who told him how every Au Ra until just a few years ago were murdered, and then proceeded to laugh about the death of a "Heretic" fitting her description. Incensed, Vel stuck one of the knights so hard his nose collapsed into his face and was ready to kill the others when a streak of darkness cut down all of them. An Elezen clad in black armor had killed them in cold blood, and beckoned the Auri to follow.
  
  At their destination, Vel collapsed to his knees as he saw the grave of his companion and beloved. Heart shattered, mind broken, the Elezen informed the man that the one responsible for her death had not and would not be brought to justice. He promised revenge and extended his arm outwards, a black soul crystal resting in his hands. Sorrow turning into hatred. Vel took the man's hand and felt that rush of power. He butchered her killer.
  
  Emotions still fresh, he cried over her grave, giving apology after apology and striking the ground until his fist connected to something. The large, delicately wrapped arrow used in her trials.
  
  Realizing his failure wasn't truly done, he took her arrow and her bow and left in search of companions who could lead him to large stores of Aether, large enough to have the one he loved posthumously declared The Moonstriker.

• Personality

  If there was one word, one single, all encompassing word to describe Veluren the Au Ra, it would "infuriating". He constantly mocks, snarks, and directs shit-eating grins towards people near him to drive away all but the most thick-skinned.
  
  Loud and brash, he often boasts about his violent deeds to try to incite people to lash out on him, his personal credo being to never attack someone out of anything but self-defense... but purposefully forcing them to attack is fair game.
  
  Yet, for all of that, it's mostly an act for both his amusement and to test those he would call friend.
  
  The "true" Veluren reflects the majority of the time spent being raised Doman. What most see as a thoughtless, violent brute is actually a cunning and reflective strategic mind capable of reading people from a glance and forming contingency after contingency for any way a situation can go wrong due to variables. He has a deep sense of honor and self-meditative outlook, and those who have become close enough to see this part of him are people he would never abandon.

• Abilities

  As a Dark Knight, Veluren's weapon of choice is a broadsword larger than even he is wielded with both crushing force and shocking precision as well as dark magics. His attunement to his darkside is almost perfected by his hatred for the zealots that took his lover from him, though he still has to find the most important lesson to be considered a true master.
  
  The Moonstriker clan allowed Veluren to be taught the way of the Ninja and he uses those skills liberally. A master infiltrator, he can easily cross rooftops through the use of his acrobatics and ninja abilities. For his massive frame he's agile and lithe and can easily dance around weapons in his more vulnerable state - if he even allows combat to reach that point. While he'll gladly create a long drawn out fight as a Dark Knight, as a Ninja he knows he's most likely in a position to assassinate and not butcher, and will try his best to kill his target and be out before anyone else learns of his presence.
  
  He possesses a variation of the Echo that's sorted itself well for his chosen path. Coming into skin contact with an innocent victim causes an echo flashback of that person's motivation and general reason why Vel shouldn't take their lives.
