    Nachtvians are very sensitive, physically speaking. Almost everything that makes
    them unique is caused by the sensitive patch of nerves on the center of their forehead.


    The "Third Eye"

    What is it?
    In simple terms, it's a special patch of nerves. It is not visible on the surface of the skin.

    Where is it?
    Forehead, slightly above the centerpoint between the eyebrows

    Primary Purpose
    Sight
    Their normal eyes see visible light (all the colors humans know well), and their special patch of nerves sees other wavelengths, including infrared and ultraviolet light. Hence the reference to the "Third Eye". This has many social implications for T'Pol's race and redefines what things like beauty and health look like in his culture.

    Secondary Purposes
    Expression
    T'Pol's race does not make many facial expressions because their emotions drift out of that nerve patch on their foreheads and are received by any members of their race who are in close proximity. As a result, other races find them to be a very deadpan group of aliens indeed!

    Health
    Nachtvian doctors touch their fingers to their patient's forehead to read life signs and make a diagnosis.

    Intimacy
    Touching eachother's foreheads is a way to share deep emotions and have very close relational connections.

    Pain
    Striking an unprotected Natchvian forehead could easily cause extreme pain, concussions, or unconsciousness. In extreme cases of repeated strikes, permanent disability or even death can result.

    The race of the Nacht has evolved to avoid the many poisonous things that grow on their planet. Their acute sense of taste makes them picky eaters, but they do have a talent for identifying certain ingredients in a food if you can convince them to put it in their mouth.

    The nerves in their forehead make them very sensitive to the life signals of other creatures, alien or not. If they work on becoming familiar with the life signs of other creatures, they have the potential to make very good doctors.

    Sensory Overload
    Outside of their planet, everything seems very loud and bright and disturbing at times. Don't be surprised if the Nachtvian on your crew requests some extra time alone in their room just to unwind from all the sensory input they're getting.
