Chén Dàiyù

Dàiyù was born on May 18th in 1889 to Chinese immigrants in America. Both of her parents were turned werewolves, which made Dàiyù herself a pure blooded one. She is the oldest sibling out of five. Her childhood was a relatively uneventful affair, as she was mostly kept inside. The American view on Chinese people was poor to say the least. She was home schooled alongside her two younger sisters. It took a couple of decades before she’d eventually enroll at a university and get a Ph.D in astronomy.

Her parents owned a bar, which was the family’s main source of income. Even back then the place worked as a neutral meeting spot for supernaturals and humans, letting the two worlds intermix without colliding. Sometime during the 20th century, Dáiyú took over the bar and renamed it Wolfsbane. Dáiyú expanded the possibilities of the bar and soon it became home for various criminal activities, both overseen by Dáiyú’s oldest brother but also herself.

As the 21st century hit, Dáiyú’s ambitions for Wolfsbane and her pack had grown. Being forced to change location every tenth year or so did little to deter this. She did however still very much carter to Wolfsbane staying neutral ground.

If Dàiyù isn't kept busy at Wolfsbane, she is likely to be found with her pack. She does have a responsibility towards as she is their alpha. It is hardly a large pack, but she quite enjoys it nonetheless. While she doesn't strictly prohibit pack members from turning humans, she very much does not encourage it either. She likes to keep things uncomplicated.

演艺人员 yǎn yì rén yuán, the entertainer Dáiyú has always loved to entertain people in different ways, and it was one of the main reasons she decided to open Wolfsbane. During the years of her ownership, she has started to adopt a certain persona for whenever she is there. She appears as a confident and hospitable host with a smile on her lip. She has been told that she comes off as overly friendly, though nobody really seems to mind. Some people have described her as loud at times, as if she gets too caught up in the moment and what she is doing to really pay attention to the volume of her voice. It is also a side effect of having grown up with four younger siblings. She cares about how she presents herself to other people. She is usually well dressed, almost looking like somebody who has been taken directly out of a fashion magazine, rather than somebody who should be serving drinks at a bar. While she necessarily doesn't have to do much footwork around Wolfsbane, she does find herself enjoying it. It gives her an opportunity to listen to people and get a feeling of what is happening around the city. She finds it a lot easier to be a bystander to those kind of conversations, rather than having to asks questions as a stranger. Despite of this, there are customers and people she doesn't like to serve or even interact with. She is certainly not above pretending she doesn't speak English at all to avoid them.

私底下 sī dǐ xia, privately Privately Dàiyù enjoys the company of a selected few people. She sometimes forgets to let go of her 'entertainer' persona when not around Wolfsbane, but when she does, she becomes a quieter person. She is still very much of a listener and as perceptive as ever, but she comes off as a lot older in those moments. She becomes a person who starts to enjoy the smaller and slower things in life. Everything doesn’t have to go as fast as they do at Wolfsbane. She is fiercely loyal to the people she cares about and she is ready to get in trouble on their behalf in a heartbeat, should it ever be necessary. She possesses a bit of a temper and some people would call her aggressive in some situations. She mostly has it under control, but there are some things that just ticks her off like nothing else. She may only stand 5"3, but she is ready to whoop some ass. She has gotten a better control on her temper over the years, though it’s still very much of a work in progress for her. She also has a tendency of taking some jokes and pokes at her person very personally. It is something she works on not taking so personal, but it usually ends with her punching somebody in the face for it. She still finds the time to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea and a book every now and then. Perhaps she is getting old.

▪ Her parents are from Qīngdǎo. She visits the city a couple of times per year, alongside other places in China.
