SKILL SET» Benedict possesses the general physical strenghts and weaknesses of a normal human. He has spent a lifetime hunting and trapping small game in the outdoors and as such most of his skills are relevant to this lifestyle. ◊ ARCHERY» Basic. He only knows enough to accurately hit a target that doesn't move too much and would not be able to use it for combat purposes. He doesn't actually own a bow either. ◊ LITTERACY» Basic. Education was not a priority in his upbringing, but Benedict is able to read and write, as his father thought it would make him harder to trick into a bad deal. His reading is much better than his writing, however. ◊ NAVIGATION» Good. He is able to navigate through unknown terrain without a map, even at night or in poor visibility. ◊ TRACKING» Good. Benedict is rather proficient at tracking, both by foot or paw prints, as well as enviromental damage. He can estimate the size of the animal or person by prints, as well as judge physical conditions (like injuries) somewhat accurately. ◊ TRAPPING» Good. Building, setting and consealing traps was a speciality of Benedict's father and one he himself has been taught extensively. |
MAGIC» Benedict is a natural witch; he was born with magical powers, in his case inherited from his paternal grandmother. To his own knowledge he is not a particularly powerful witch and doesn't use magic much in his day to day life. ◊ CURSE NEGATION» Basic. To an extend, Benedict is able to undo curses and hexes placed by others - if he knows the nature of the hex / curse and is stronger than the caster. ◊ HEALING» Good. Restoration spells are amongst the ones Benedict is most proficient at, whether they are used for healing injuries or curing illnesses. ◊ HERBAL KNOWLEDGE» Basic. Arguably not an inherently magical skill, but very useful when practising. He knows a thing or two about herbs, mostly in relation to remedies for minor illnesses such as the common cold. ◊ SCRYING» Good. Through reflective surfaces, he is able to find people or objects, so long as he has an accurate description, a name or a possession of the person in question. ◊ MISC» Generally Benedict is most proficient in what would be considered light or good magic. He is capable of more than what is listed above, but rarely makes use of it. |
LIMITATIONS OF MAGIC» One of the biggest limitation of magic is a lack of education, as it often requires knowledge of specific words or actions, artifacts and herbs. Because spells rely heavily on the spoken word, any mispronounciation could have consequences. It also means that gagging a witch is a fairly effective way of robbing them of their abbility to cast spells. Some magic requires intense focus, so disruption is another weakness - especially of rites and rituals. Magical ressources are finit, meaning that they run out at some point, and very demanding spells might deplete a witch's magic to a point where they will faint or even die. Magic does not change the physical abilities or endurance of a person. This means that they have little to no physical advantages over regular people and that they can be killed just as easily - no need for special equipments or methods. Magic does not particularly lengthen a witch's life either, meaning they have the average lifespan of any other human being, unless prolonging it with the help of higher powers. ◊
Any information on magic is limited to the sort that Benedict is capable of wielding and I am somewhat willing to compromise or alter it, should he be involved with a character using magic based on other concepts. It does not need to apply to the character of a potential partner. I am, however, pretty specific about a sense of 'realism' in magic. |
