MENTAL
Gabriel's life has always been chaotic. He and his single mother were jostled all over Montréal by eviction notices, lost jobs, and unpaid bills. He learned how to never settle down. His experiences have bred deep insecurities and resignation-- if the universe won't pull its punches, he'll just have to roll with them and laugh. For him it's the only way to cope, aside from the drinking and the drugs and the sleeping around, which are still intermittent crutches. After a lifetime of on-off abuse his mother finally kicked him out. He's been on his own since he was eighteen.

Though Gabriel looks a little intimidating, any aloofness is just posturing; he can't resist talking to strangers and lights up two words into a conversation. He warmth and energy and it draws people in; but he has learned to let them orbit him. Others come and go. He sweeps through their lives like a force of nature, never anchoring himself because he is convinced that in the end he can only ever be alone. And so he is only ever alone, and his blundering whirlwind existence hurts people along the way. If you live fast enough you can avoid thinking about that shit, see, except when it's 3:00 AM and you're lying in the backseat of your car in the middle of nowhere wondering what the fuck you're doing. Then the sun comes up and you hit the road again. There's always tomorrow. At his core his most destructive impulses are driven by the fear that he is unneeded and unwanted.

PHYSICAL
An angular face, with sharp cheekbones and slightly sunken eyes that never forgot what it's like to go hungry. Blondish-brown hair somewhere between a wave and a curl. Darker lashes and brows; their high arches seem permanently amused. A crooked nose from constant breaks that were clearly home-set. Miscellaneous cuts; a light webbing of scar tissue dusting his knuckles and an old cigarette burn dotting his upper arm. Black stud earrings are his last piercings that he hasn't taken out. His accent is comprehensible and adds an almost melodic quality to his voice. It's hard to tell he's even a smoker until he laughs. Street-smart scuffed leather, all-black, punk-greaser hybrid kind of aesthetic.

CORONER'S NOTES

The subject exhibits a pattern of contusions consistent with a struggle, suggesting that he physically retaliated against his attacker. Cause of death: exanguination caused by incised wounds, suspected of being inflicted by a handheld hatchet found at the scene. A missed swing cut into the left side of his neck where it meets the trapezius muscle, which would not have caused instantaneous death but likely induced hypovolemic shock. The killing blow sliced through the subject's left ear, resulting in fractures to the skull and zygomatic bone. The wound extends onto the subject's face to the corner of his eye where it caused the blood vessels to rupture and redden the sclera. The hatchet appears to have been removed postmortem. Autopsy pending.
