  • Iron Keys

    • Alias: Nios-nok-sothva (“Brother-of-eyes”, Unknown primordial tongue), Nios (pr. Ny-ōs or Nā-us), आज्ञा (Sanskrit; Ajna, The sixth chakra)
    • Origin: As the “natal twin” and polar half of a demon-seeded thoughtform, the Tulpa bears the origins of his brother (the Nirmita), to whom he is immutably linked in both body and spirit. While their existence is symbiotic, and their nature singular, they do not share the full gamut of each other's strengths and weaknesses, and maintain a level of individuality between themselves that is as clear as night and day— and just as concordant.
    • Species: Genetically none. Humanoid, by the eye.
    • Race: Immortal; multi-dimensional. (Tulpa)
    • Age: Several centuries. Indeterminate adult.
    • Height: 7'7”, quite a bit of this being in his digitigrade legs, which are possessed of an outstandingly tenuous length in the gaskin and cannon bones (calves and ankles).
      While his brother is the taller of the two, the difference in inches between them is negligible. Nios is also often considered the less physically intimidating twin, though due to various magical enhancements, he's stronger than Rue by a significant degree.
    • Weight: Proportionate. (All that iron is an unholy embarrassment on the scale.)
    • Sex: Mutable (variably nothing, male, or intersex). If reduced to the nude, the Tulpa boasts an agile, wiry structure with internalized genitalia... thus allowing him the option to lounge in his freakish, streamlined nudity without exceeding a PG-13 rating. (LOL)
    • Gender: Neutrois. Nios does not strictly identify with any particular gender. He considers it a pointlessly divisive mortal concept; one for which he has no real use. "He" pronouns are readily accepted and most common, however, as gender is a ubiquitous cultural institution, and people tend to judge him by his angularity and muscle tone. Being addressed by "They" pronouns would be ideal, but the Tulpa rarely (if ever) makes any indication to this desire.
    • Orientation: Pansexual.
    • Alignment: Lawful Neutral (with Lawful Good inclinations and a surprisingly human moral compass as his foundation— in direct contrast to his sibling, who is a complete twat.)

      A lawful neutral character is directed by law, tradition, or a strict personal code. Serving this order is paramount to him. Lawful neutral combines reliability and honor without breaking oath for emotional bias, whether it exists or not. He will always seek to act faithfully, even through the inconvenience, injury, or death of himself and others. These characters are unquestioningly devoted; whatever credo drives them is adhered to with a firmness superseding ethical and moral considerations, though not necessarily to the exclusion of them. They may function by a “good” or “evil” moral standard, but only as determined by principles of duty. This can manifest as either a sacrosanct code they do not agree with but are sworn to obey, or something they truly believe in.
    • Personality: Nios has an almost invariably tranquil, lazy demeanor. Less detectable perhaps is the incisive vigilance overshadowing it. His style of wit is grave and unhurried, benign in the sense that he tends to avoid cruel humor... favoring droll, reflective, tongue-in-cheek wordplay. It's just more the cut of his jib, y'know.

      Nevertheless, a love of the ironic and a taste for philosophy has sharpened his inherent fatalism to a razor's edge. A somewhat nihilistic but essentially humanitarian creature, the Tulpa is defined by alternating patterns of cynicism and idealism, apathy and compassion, in the same way a tiger is defined by its stripes. Nios would be close to unrecognizable as himself without these contrasts.

      'Perspicacious' would be a good way to describe him, even if he is a bit withdrawn. He spurns idle chatter; harboring his opinions with care and rarely volunteering the meat of his inner-thoughts to anyone but his brother. He values wisdom and worldly knowledge— be it practical or poetic— and fancies himself something of a bard. It takes an earnest plea to invoke his skills beyond the occasional cursory pluck at the sarangi, however... either out of some curious artistic reservation, or a true (and very human) modesty.

      Now... Attach him to a hookah and throw a little mulled wine into the mix? Presto! You've got a musical chatterbox of an immortal on your hands for hours on end.
      The trick, then, is getting him to shut the fuck up.

  • Brass Tacks

    • Body Type: Ectomorph. Nios is a superb example of this somatotype, fully defined by the kind of dexterous, ropy alacrity that characterizes it, particularly in a body that has been subject to muscle-gain via stress and necessity. You know that old "skinny but muscular" platitude? Well, here's the posterchild. His sine qua non tone is not healthy; merely desperate. In spite of this, the Tulpa’s physical strength is alarmingly disproportionate to what his sort of structure ought to be capable of. (Refer to Innate Abilities.)
    • Complexion: A sallow, bloodless off-grey, shot through with powdery dashes of Botswana agate in faint concentric whorls. A little on the “deceased” side tonewise, but not unappealing. The long, raised arteries often seen limning muscle (particularly of the arms) in healthy individuals are reduced somewhat here, and white as webs of chert in a polished bed of grey marble.
    • Facial Features: Mature and aquiline. A strong nose, sharp chin, and high cheekbones. Indeed, the overall mien is quite severe. The softer androgyny of youth cannot be found in it, yet it could readily be the angular, peregrine face of either a woman or man; in equal parts both, and weighted still by the gaunt, anonymously hollow suggestion of neither. His thin lips are painted thickly in jet, the hollows of his eyes coal-dark, lit from within by pale, primordial embers that warp and waver in shades of opal.
    • Hair: Short, cropped, somewhat "spiny", with a windswept quality to it. Soaked in a soft gradient of eggshell white, drab greyish-purple, and dusty blue.
    • Scars / Tattoos: The Tulpa does not scar. A fondness for Mehndi (traditional henna art) persists where an interest in more permanent changes to the skin is lacking.
    • Piercings: Plentiful and subject to change, as Nios must re-pierce himself each time his physical body is destroyed and reconstituted. A few of his more permanent effects include Viśvavajra (double-dorje) earrings and thin iron hoops of personal design, eight silver sickle-like needles often found in his ears (they sometimes wind up in less routine places), and a whole host of carved horn and agate jewelry frequently hooked, clipped, cinched, pinched, and punctured into his person.
    • Accessories: - (Plenty of stuff to go here. WIP.)
    • Scent: Hyssop root incense (creamy, earthen, subtle woody vanilla) blended with a faint animal musk, Mu’assel (a kind of caramelized tobacco smoked in a narghile or hookah), veins of amber and pungent labdanum, and beneath it all the base of something indistinctly oily and aged. Sleepy, nostalgic, but difficult to pinpoint. If none of this is evocative enough for you, let’s just say he reeks of Nag Champa and call it a day. (If you aren’t familiar with this totally ubiquitous Indian incense, you’re shit out of luck.)
    • Voice: An upper-register baritone with tenor qualities. Genderless, husky, and flexible. The only truly strange thing about it may be its plasticity; smacking of a low, honey-liqueured sort of youth one moment— plunging into an inordinate resonance and maturity the next. Although quiet and gentle as a rule, in anger it can take on a truly impressive strength.
    • Mannerisms: The Tulpa is a classic model of the calm, vigilant intensity of a serpent... and with it, the relaxed control of a confident apex predator. There is an Egyptian stilt to his movements, which are drenched in the drama of rather poorly contained and irrepressible spiritual energies. This daft, ever-animated flood of body language seems particular to madmen and artists, and Nios is constantly illustrating his ideas with theatrical gestures and weightless flourishes aplenty. The burden of the intellectual’s yoke, too, is often seen in the pensive droop of the Tulpa's shoulders and head, as if the thoughts revolving incessantly in his skull have an actual physical weight. It can't possibly help that the extra eyes in his chest and shoulders are constantly rolling off in different directions, chameleon-like in the way they independently scan the environment.
    • Diet: The Tulpa does not require organic nourishment to sustain himself, but that hasn’t stopped him from developing an almost obsessive relationship with certain foods, including but not limited to; raw, near-raw or cured meats, char siu, goat’s milk, pomegranates, fresh figs, preserved dates, select spices (garlic, cayenne, cumin), herbal liqueurs, fried squid tentacles, quail’s eggs (preferably uncooked and shell intact—pop-crunch), comb-honey (wax and all, none of that pasteurized foolishness), young radishes, black lager.
    • Acquired Skills: Music, magic, medicine, and the professional instruction of these things. (Go ahead and prod me IC or OOC if you'd like to explore a possible teacher/student theme! I adore that stuff.)
    • Innate Abilities: Nios shares a few of his brother’s talents in psionics and energetic manipulation, but to a much less destructive degree. Instead, the Tulpa’s real aptitude lies in the realms of illusion, divination, defensive dispelling, nullification of harmful magics, and healing. Aside from this, his greatest endowments by far are his supernaturally enhanced endurance and physical strength. DEMONS, AMIRITE? Talk about chronic overachievers.

  • Frivolity

    • Pleasures: His brother's persnickety attentions, his opium pipe, woodsmoke, pungent/earthy incense and sweet resins, enclosed spaces, the sensation of fine ash on skin, the particular glitter of frost and geode amethyst, the sound of hushed voices in exchange, old brass and iron objects, hand-spun cotton, quill-making, Siddhaṃ manuscripts, the great panoply of nonhuman creatures, distant music, muted mood-lighting, playing the sarangi, fiddling with the sitar, a nice icy hookah in a sea of fine brocade cushions.
    • Pains: There are very few things the Tulpa dislikes strongly, barring hostile actions against the Nirmita. Bright lights, sharp sounds, and raucous crowds can hair-trigger his migraines. Also, hot-headed and undisciplined folk ought to mind their manners around him. He's patient with innocent ignorance, but intentionally disrespectful or insulting tongues have been known to juggle their own loose teeth once the attitude crosses certain wires. He also cannot abide cruelty towards children or animals.
