René Noel is a mundane, unapologetically human character. He is fragile yet brash, cultured but fierce, a creature with a kind but prideful heart that he zealously (and sometimes violently) guards.
physical: René is of modest height, pale of skin and dark of hair. Naturally almond-shaped eyes are accentuated with kohl wings, lending him a distinct cat-like appearance. Lips are plush, cheeks soft, and face heart-shaped. In short, René is a vision in marble, and he damn well knows it.

STRENGTHS
────────
Intelligent and Sharp – René grew up on a steady diet of academic tutors, governesses and social etiquette instructors. To say he is book smart is an understatement. He is also deceptively perceptive and quick on the uptake…usually.
Charming - When René behaves himself or decides he likes someone, he can be a sweet, easy companion; he is polite, well spoken, and has impeccable manners. When he decides to use them.
Perseverance – When René sets his mind on something, he will be unwavering in his dogged pursuit of it – be it surreptitious knowledge, the completion of a difficult task, or more simply… his own freedom. If he must be cunning and manipulative to succeed, so be it.
Good Natured – Despite his many faults, René is a compassionate individual who will go out of his way to help others, even to his own detriment.
Optimistic - While outwardly he may brood and bitch and act nothing less than sullen, René is a perennial optimist. Even in the face of great hardship, he always believes that relief is just around the corner and that every person is capable of goodness.

A Moth to Flame - René has some deep, dark, unexplainable attraction to danger: items, places, and even people. He lacks proper self-preservation, and will actively put himself in harm's way without truly meaning to.
Vain – René is obsessed with his own reflection. He will endlessly preen and doll himself up to make certain that he is the prettiest thing in the room at any given time. He is susceptible to flattery, and anyone wanting to get under his skin need only look skin deep.
Prideful and Haughty – Going from a life of wealth, freedom, and adoration to one of enslavement and degradation has…not gone over well. Despite a carefully constructed façade of willing subservience, the shell is easy to crack. René is easily offended, quick to anger, and easy to fluster.
Anger Issues - René is predisposed to short bursts of intense anger and has a yet untapped capacity for violence.
Displays of Affection – René, as a slave, is starved for touch and affection. He craves it, and is easily manipulated by such displays – even from those who do him harm. Pet his hair and watch him croon.
Savior Complex – Rene has a tendency to fall and fall hard for these types.

SKILLS

Tutoring – René is well learned in most areas of academia, with a particularly good grasp of World History, Literature, and Language. He would also be happy to teach any of his other talents.
Childcare – René is surprisingly good with children.
Calligraphy – When he was a free man, René was considered a master calligrapher whose works were sold as fine art. Combined with great organizational skills and a penchant for perfectionism, this makes René an excellent choice for scribe work.
Music – René can play the following instruments proficiently: Harp, Lute, Harpsichord. He’ll sometimes break out a small pan flute just for fun. He can play other instruments, but not with the same degree of skill. He prefers the sound of folk music to the refined stylings of court.
Language – René speaks Common, French, and Therian (Italian) fluently. He has working capability in Spanish, Greek and Turkish. He has only basic/elementary understanding in most other Mediterranean and Baltic languages. He only has academic knowledge in Latin.
Ways of Court – René is knowledgeable in the ways of court, including: proper etiquette, fashion, dining, ballroom dancing and navigating all the little political intricacies of high society life. René would make a good personal attendant, sommelier and event organizer …and maybe he even knows a thing or two about political intrigue and sabotage.
Personal Grooming – Due to his own predilections, René makes an excellent personal groomer. He is good with hair, makeup, and dressing for special events. He also loves to shop, for himself or others.

René was born into the wealthiest, most politically powerful family in his homeland of Pasaque ("Pas-a-quay"), the Elseys. His mother was a classy, well respected socialite and heiress, his father a prominent politician and travelling diplomat. Neither were strong forces in his life. His mother was too busy hamming it up at charities, galleries and high society parties, and his father's life was in his work. Instead René and his baby sister Luella were left to the care of a rotating set of nannies, never staying with one for too long, lest their mother fear they'd love them more than she. His father's brother, René's uncle, was the most powerful man in Pasaque: the Ambassador, the highest office within the Senate. He was a loving man, however, and spoiled René rotten.
His father was stern, and raised René - his only male heir - to follow in his footsteps. He took up private lessons from the moment he could speak. A proper menagerie of tutors and masters dictated his every move, up until puberty. He learned proper court etiquette, became fluent in a couple of languages and had passing knowledge in a dozen others, and absorbed as much knowledge as he could in a vain hope he could meet his father's expectations. It was here that he discovered his truest passions lie not in politics or power, but in art and creativity. His father, disgusted with René's growing laissez-faire attitude, allowed their relationship to fray, and largely disappeared from René's life in all but name. René, wealthy beyond measure, was now freed from all the responsibility dumped upon him during youth and proceeded to live a hedonistic and rebellious lifestyle up until his mid-twenties. He partied hard, active in the fashion and theatrical scene, and took many to his bed.
It was then that he met a young senator named Toma, who was frightfully taken with René. Despite many rejections, the senator persisted, until René found a certain charm about him. Eventually they fell in love, and were engaged. René was happier than he'd been since childhood, settling down to work as a Calligrapher and artist, leaving Toma (and his own inheritance) to be the family breadwinner. But as René had grown, so had his tastes for the finer things in life, and he found himself spending more than even he and Toma could possibly afford.
René found himself in a predicament. He was eventually cut off by his father, who didn't approve of such a negligent attitude toward the family fortune. At the rate he was going, René would no longer be able to support his lifestyle, and that was just not acceptable. He found he had an unusual gift for forgery, and with the help an old god turned modern tech whiz, René used his connections to siphon funds from the wealthiest of the wealthy. Getting caught would ruin him. It was such an awful, terrible idea. But somewhere deep inside himself, René desired adventure, and the thrill of it was just intoxicating.
In the course of things, René and Toma split in fairly dramatic fashion. Heartbroken and angry, René packed his things and simply left. He had planned to return. He never did.
