• Biography

  Creation of the ERF Project

  C-093, otherwise known as Buzzard, has had an interesting and complicated life from the very beginning. Buzzard is an Augmented Soldier designed by a military scientist known as Harold Clayton. After witnessing the success of the FDT (Federation Defensive Teams), a group of specialized soldiers reminiscent of the now defunct Navy SEALS, Clayton secured funding to create a new group of soldiers who were born and bred to fight the FDF (Federation Defensive Forces) battles. Clayton surmised that the FDT's success derived from the amount of training those volunteer soldiers received. Clayton had the idea in his head that a group of soldiers trained from the very beginning to wage war would be even more effective and inevitably lead to a new era for humanity as a whole. Babies and children who only knew of combat and service would far outperform their counterparts. After proposing his idea to the Board of Federation Affairs, Clayton received the funding he needed to begin with what was known as the Trial Generation. Human embryos were grown quickly in a lab and eventually trained by elite soldiers from the FDT. Their effectiveness granted Clayton the proof he needed to continue his project and those soldiers he created were destroyed to mask Clayton's work.
  
  Soon after, work began on what is now known as the ERF (Expeditionary Reaction Force) project. Assets would be created en masse to deploy on hostile worlds, quell insurrections, and spend possibly years in the field. Soldiers would be expendable and trained to know how easily replaced they would be. With only the mission in mind, soldiers would gladly sacrifice themselves or their entire team to complete it. The ERF soldier would be a force to be reckoned with and ensure that non-earth colonies comply with the Federation's doctrine and views. Under no circumstance would rogue worlds and colonies be allowed to exist so that humanity as a whole would stay united.

  ERF Training

  ERF soldiers are individuals with their genes controlled and altered to create the perfect fighters for the Federation. They are created in a lab and grown rapidly over the course of three years until they have grown roughly to the equivalent of an eight year old child. Already they are larger and stronger than ordinary children and it takes just a few short years to school them in all the various subjects due to a sub-cranial implant that acts as a memory bank. This allows them to adapt quickly to their new lives and once this period is over, they are transferred to their FDT instructors. The now recruits are placed on hold until enough of them are created to be placed into divisions of one hundred. These divisions are created in order of the phonetic alphabet and individuals are named by their corresponding division and number (Example. A-052, the 52nd recruit in Alpha division). Division commanders are chosen by the FDT instructors and become part of the chain of command which promotes order within the division. This division commander leads the others through evolutions created by the FDT instructors. During this time, recruits are encouraged to refer to each other by their division and number but without fail, recruits will create nicknames for each other to identify themselves. Instructors and scientists alike were initially baffled at the spontaneous close knit relationships within divisions but encouraged them as it promoted morale.

  PHASE I

  Recruits are "born" and surgically implanted with their sub-cranial implants into the bases of their skulls. This allows them to rapidly learn everything they need to survive and prepare for the next phases of their training. This process typically takes seven hundred and fifty earth days, which are simulated in the training facilities on Orion (Planet with many colonies founded by the federation.)

  PHASE II

  Recruits are given to their FDT instructors and given semi-permanent residence on the Atlas Station, the largest orbital platform just outside of Orion. Here they begin physical training under intense simulated gravity to strengthen them far beyond what a normal human would be capable of. The FDT instructors were required to train for years just to withstand this simulated environment. During this time they perform simulated military exercises, learn military strategy, and are placed into their permanent divisions. This phase takes just over a year but has an average drop out rate of two percent.

  PHASE III

  Divisions are transferred back to Orion and transported to the most remote facility on the planet; the Janus Installation. This is where trainees go through torture training and are pushed to their limits. Many are killed within weeks or arriving but at the conclusion of this section of Phase III, only the strong and worthy remain. After this they are exposed to Janus Facility's primary purpose; illegal and unethical chemical augmentation. Recruits go through weeks of grueling injections the produce bursts of growth, making every recruit well over seven feet tall. Others increase muscle density, thicken the ligaments and tendons, improve cell replication rates, and much more. A grafting process reinforces bones with carbon fibers that make them nearly unbreakable. Many recruits wash out during this time and the average number of individuals left is around twenty five or so. The common side effect of these augmentations is a skin disorder which produces a repulsive and irreversible condition that leads to hair loss. Most recruits simply shave their heads and move on while others are rendered entirely bald. Recruits who survive this entire process are given six months to adapt to their new bodies before completing Phase III

  PHASE IV

  Divisions who make it this far are closely knit, cohesive units with unrivaled communication skills. It is at this point they are transferred to the Iridi Complex, a subterranean base which was created from the first mining operation on Orion. Rooms thousands of feet in wide are turned into simulated forests, tundras, deserts, and other various biomes so that recruits can learn advanced survival techniques. This also is the time where they learn to specialize and diversify their divisions with their combined skills. It is determined during this time which members will be separated into smaller squads which have special tasking The entire length of this phase is over two years.

  PHASE V

  At the beginning of this phase, fireteams are separated and sent to different installations which will further train and perfect their skills. During these periods of training, which often last up to five years, these teams are given equipment suited for their particular operations. A select few fireteams are trained well enough in the right areas to warrant more expensive equipment and technology. However, because of their expendable nature, these soldiers are not given any assets which might present a significant loss if they were to perish.

  SELECTION

  While all fireteams are trained up to deploy at any time, many would be wasted to simply send them where they aren't needed. Depending on the need, only some fireteams will be rotated into active service at any given time. Those that stand by for their awaited selection day will stay on at their Phase V training facilities to help train the recruits behind them. Should a team deploy and suffer losses, members of the new teams will rotate forward to fill the gaps, resulting in some teams made up of soldiers from different divisions. Thankfully these teams continue to train and eventually perform as well as same division fireteams.

  DEPLOYMENT

  The ERF project has officially had soldiers ready to deploy for over twenty years. During this time, ERF soldiers have operated with extreme efficiency and relatively few losses. From remote planet recon to near earth rebellion suppression, the ERF has projected power and become a force shrouded in mystery and red tape. Their deployments are secretive and extremely effective at leaving few witnesses behind. At times they act autonomously, needing very little direction from the Federation.

  Charlie 093 - Buzzard

  This brings us back to the star of our show, or at least the current center of attention. Rifelman Buzzard, is an ERF soldier who belongs to Fireteam Thunder, a fireteam designed to implement various technologies in the artillery field. They destroy hardened targets, strike rebel colonies, and rain fire from the heavens. They are lead by Alpha 008, otherwise known as Dutch. He's one of the shorter, stockier ERF soldiers and absolutely oozes confidence. Other members include Alpha 083 "Ruby" and Alpha 007 "Bond" (Who got his name from a couple of old holovids about a spy). Buzzard replaced a previous member of Fireteam Thunder, Bravo 072 "Steel", and one might say he has some big shoes to fill. He's quiet and sure of himselve, knowing full well his team looks to him for the support they expected of Steel. He stands roughly two and a half meters tall and knows his way around the MAM-3b, Fireteam Thunder's primary mortar.

  WEAPONS

  BDR-V5: A reliable, semi-automatic assault rifle with the tried and true 7.62x51mm rounds. It has excellent stopping power at mid-range engagements and can be modified for just about any mission.
  PKR-3E: Designed as a weapon capable of killing large animals at close range, this revolve is overbuilt for recoil compensation due to the massive size of this weapons rounds. Team Thunder often carries them to the scens of their mortar strikes to execute anyone unlucky enough to survive.
  MAM-3b: Dubbed the "Thunder Gun", the Magnetic Acceleration Mortar is the workhorse of Fireteam Thunder's arsenal. It fire specially designed rounds up to 10 miles away depending on atmospheric conditions and is accurate to within thirty feet. This slight inaccuracy often doesn't matter due to its one hundred and fifty foot blast radius but Fireteam Thunder often likes to boast they can hammer a nail from five miles out. The shells can be dumb fired if one must move immediately after firing or can be guided from a fixed position to their target. Fireteam Thunder utilizes thre of these massive weapons and uses them with deadly efficiency.
