• Personality

  Introverted and rather subdued. Duncan is a bit of a quiet fella, observant. Not remembering anything before the age of fourteen has given him a fairly understandable identity crisis; technically, Duncan is no one. It’s made him somewhat desperate for an identity, something to belong to.
  He’s also not very good at trusting others. In his short life he’s nearly been murdered more than once, been betrayed, used and sometimes treated like a freak. Those negative experiences are contrasted by the happy ones, but they still have left a significant impact on the young man. On top of that he can't really be open about his situation and has really internalized this need for secrecy. As a result, opening up is extremely hard for him.
  It doesn't show a lot, however. While he's not all that much of a talker, Duncan is polite and neutral when talking to most people and his lack of trust is not something he likes to vocalize. It presents itself mostly in an inability to rely on others.
  
  Duncan’s a pretty intelligent lad. He’s an adept researcher, problem solver and has become pretty critical of new information due to all the bullshit he’s had to solve through in all the hours he’s spent trying to learn more about his past. He won’t accept just anything as truth and even when he greatly respects someone, he’ll likely want to verify what he’s being told himself.
  He's determined and very capable of dealing with setbacks. This determination does come with a side dish of a bit of obsession.
  While a bit damaged, he’s not a bad lad. He does enjoy social interaction in his own way and he does crave people that he can rely on, but it’s just not easy for him to get to that point. He deeply desires to just have someone that loves him for who he is and around whom he can truly feel safe.
  He’s not the most assertive or the most charismatic and sometimes doesn’t quite know how to respond to something, but he means well.

• Abilities

  Telekinesis:
  - Can use energy to lift things up, push them away etc.
  - His dexterity with this power is limited; he can lift a fork up just fine, but wouldn’t be able to influence the pins of a lock, for instance, that’s too precise.
  - He’s limited by his own energy. As long as something’s not too heavy he’s fine, but extreme instances of the power drain him real quick and can even knock him out for a while, making powerful instances of the power dangerous for him, as he’s leaving himself in an incredibly vulnerable state.
  - He has very little control over this power. If he experiences an intense negative emotion, things can get very messy.
  
  Misty Plains
  - Can sort of teleport, but to this one very specific location, a different plane in a sense.
  - When exiting the plane, he'll return to the exact place he left from, or as close to it as possible (say he teleported away while on a contruction site, but during his stay a block on concrete is placed where he stood, then he'll appear either on top or right next to the block upon return.)
  - The thick mist makes it impossible to see very far, so knowing wether or not he’s truly alone or safe there is impossible to know, causing him to avoid it
  - As far as he knows, there is no food or safely drinkable water there, meaning he'll have to return for this eventually. Should he dare venture further, this could change, of course.
  - He can take someone with him, though he is not aware of that yet
  - Should someone understand the machinations of this power, a drawback would be that it's very easy to trap him simply by waiting at the spot he vanished from.

• Background

  Duncan’s earliest memories are from just a few years ago. At the age of fourteen he woke up in the shambles of what must’ve been an impressive hidden bunker, with no recollection of the fourteen years before that. Yet he did speak English and he did know all sorts of rudimentary facts he didn’t remember learning. For several hours he wandered around the now abandoned complex, trying to find someone, to figure out what had happened.
  When it became abundantly clear that he was entirely on his own, he left. He walked for a few more hours until his feet hurt and he started to feel like the forest he was in had to be endless, when he ran into a tall man with long, blond hair. His happiness to see another living soul was soon replaced with fear when the man pullen a weapon and admitted he was here to kill Duncan.
  His powers were what saved him, but entirely beyond his control. A mighty forcefield knocked the man back and managed to uproot several trees. Duncan lost consciousness.
  When he came to he was surrounded by cops. They had found a nearly dead man in the woods and the results of what they thought must have been an explosion and Duncan was the only other person around. It didn’t help his case that he had no ID on him and wasn’t able to explain who he was and what he was doing here.
  And so Duncan was taken to the station where it became clear he just didn’t seem to have existed up until this point. No birth certificate or anything. Despite the mystery, the cop that had the task of questioning him felt bad for the exhausted, nervous fourteen-year-old, who legitimately didn’t seem to understand what was going on.
  Duncan tried to explain it; he tried to tell the man he woke up in a bunker with no memories at all, but the man was skeptical. Duncan managed to convince him to at least give checking out that bunker a chance, and while the cops eventually had to agree that it had clearly broken down very recently and possible due to an explosion, that didn’t really answer the question of who he was or where he came from.
  
  Since there was no real evidence Duncan was responsible for the injuries of the man that had intended to kill him - that last bit was also something he kept to himself - and nobody felt it was going to be beneficial to a child to be punished for not having an ID, Duncan was placed into foster care.
  The foster family wasn’t exactly great. The compensation they got for taking kids like Duncan in was clearly a little too important to them and the mystery of Duncan’s origin hung in between him and the others like a heavy mist. They didn’t quite believe his story and thought he was hiding something. They avoided the subject, however, and so did Duncan.
  Still, they weren’t outright abusive, even if they were a bit neglectful and they were definitely the least of Duncan’s problems. Try explaining at school why you do know some facts about the Second World War but don’t know what you’ve been doing in the past fourteen years.
  He became a bit of an outcast in school, since many people there also thought he was either really weird or just plain lying. He did make a couple of friends, however, and they were so close it made up for many of the less pleasant things. Under their wing he became a bit more social, a bit less self-conscious.
  
  Duncan was fascinated by computers and, more precisely, the internet. His direct environment was not going to help him learn more about himself, but the seemingly endless source of information online might. The anonymity helped as well; he could get ridiculed for the questions he’d ask, but they didn’t know who he was and that gave him a sense of safety.
  And so he searched and searched, almost compulsively. Along the way he improved his programming skills, learned how to hack and, frankly, became a bit obsessed with learning more about the supernatural, even if it meant breaking into a database to seach without any restrictions.
  It was an incredibly slow process, of course. He found many things that couldn’t be verified, many things that were outright fake or at least embellished and hardly anything that pointed him in a useful direction.
  But bit by bit he found little, tiny puzzle pieces that turned into leads. Most leads went nowhere, but after each one Duncan could cross things off the endless list of things that could possibly be wrong with him.
  During those very same years something else developed as well; Duncan’s powers. The force push that had saved him from murder had also knocked him right out and as he learned to wield his power that would happen more frequently. He tested things out in remote locations, but even still had to flee from the cops more than once and explain weird injuries to his foster parents who felt like they had lost grip on the young man entirely.
  His other power was less obvious. He could move away to a place like none he’d ever been to before; a dark, misty plane where he couldn’t do anything other than walk around. He didn’t go there often; it always felt like being watched and he didn’t quite feel like he should be there.
  When he was finally eightteen, he moved out. For a year now he had been working at a computer store, where he did well, and so he rented a small apartment not too far from his work, so he could keep at it.
  He lived soberly and saved up like crazy, until he had enough to hit the road. It was time to follow the leads physically. It took him from place to place, got him into the hands of people with ill intentions, but also pushed him into the arms of people that would become the most trusted of friends.
  
  His entire life, or at least the part he remembered, he had to live with secrets and it showed, but he met some people that slowly retaught him how to trust, even if it was just a little.
  There were times where he was particularly down on his luck and ready to give up, but his obsession with finding out what happened in those fourteen years kept driving him forward in a feverish, restless manner.
  Now, at age twenty-two, he is still searching. He has a temporary place in one of the cities, but once he’s explored every single lead, he’s going to be on the move again.
