• History

  Vice Admiral Dylan Alyan, Hero of the last Spiral Wars, whose inspired tactics during the battle of Hell's Rings turned the tide of the entire war.
  
  Dylan was born on Mars' capital Armstrong City. His family were noted bankers, and he grew up amongst the intellectual elite of Humanity's Cradle. A patriotic man he heard the call of service from an early age, and after some arguments, convinced his parents to send him to the Naval Academy in the Kuiper Belt launch station. There he excelled at both tactical exercises and piloting. However, he often found challenges in his haughty demeanor which put him at a disadvantage in team exercises which made up the majority of the higher classes.
  
  Nevertheless, he struggled through and on the back of his brilliance, he managed to graduate in the upper tiers of his class. Assigned to the patrol carrier Indomintable Will as a Lieutenant, in command of a flight of older Charybdis class fighters. It was here that he saw his first combat facing against the far better equipped Pirate lords of the Dark Space Alliance. Against this superior force, it was only due to Dylan's tactical acumen that his men survived. This engendered them to him, and quickly he learned how to charm soldiers and turn them to his will.
  
  Rising through the ranks, Dylan captained the Indomintable Will's fighter force, joining with a full carrier battlegroup to rid the border systems of the Dark Space Alliance altogether, a victory which brought the name of Alyan to the forefront of Republic gossip, much to Dylan's family's pleasure. However, just as it appeared as if the Republic was about to enter into a new era of peace and tranquility, their Rivals in the Imperium of Stars struck out at several border worlds, eventually sparking another Spiral War.
  
  The Indomintable Will was barely adequate to patrol; it was worse than outdated in a real war. Dylan and his pilots were reassigned to the Dawn of Stars and promoted to commander. The war started out poorly for the Republic, and it did not improve quickly. Losses on both sides became horrific as the two massive entities went to war. However, things went well for Dylan, as he and the Dawn of Stars went on a string of small victories across his sector. Despite his ever-rising personal tally of enemy fighters taken down, it quickly became clear that Dylan's talents were far more valuable during the commanding of fighter squadrons than as one himself. So once again Dylan was promoted to Captain of his own ship, taking with him his most talented squadron commanders.
  
  Dylan's new ship was the fast carrier Purity of Fire and with it and the free reign he was given as the Admiralty turned itself to larger and more difficult battles, Dylan began a series of daring raids into enemy territory. The success of these raids filled the papers with much-needed propaganda, and soon it seemed as if the only good news came from the Purity of Fire. But with success came danger, now even more famous, even the Imperium began to take note of Dylan. Soon an entire sector battlefleet was tasked with the capture or destruction of the Lord Raider as Dylan was known.
  
  Without extensive support from the Republic, there was only so much that Dylan could do. Eventually, he was cornered in the Orunabin Nebula. Despite a masterful display of fighter command, and taking a toll of no less than six enemy capital ships, Dylan was forced to evacuate the Purity of Fire and use the burning hulk of his ship as a distraction to allow himself and his remaining fighters to escape. Dylan led his fighters home, a journey that took nearly three weeks without the use of the jump engines of a capital ship. How exactly he managed the feat is still the stuff of legend.
  
  On his return, Dylan was hailed as a true hero. Not only had his ship's loss been hailed as a noble sacrifice, but it also turned out to be true. The hunt for Dylan had taken much of the strategic momentum from the Imperium. Now the Republic had the chance to turn the tide in its favor finally. Dylan was promoted to Commodore and placed in command of one of the new formed Battle Groups that would be leading the charge. Dylan placed his flag on the fleet Carrier Sunrise Dragon and made his way to the staging point at Hell's Rings.
  
  This turned out to be a trap set by the Imperium. One which would have surely sealed the fate of the Republic if not for the actions of Commodore Alyan. Using his Cruisers and other escorts as a spear, he tore into the heart of the enemy formation before unleashing his sheltered Bomber and Fighter squadrons into the mass of the enemy, using their clustered attack vectors to reap a heavy toll on them. As the Imperium fleet stalled, ships desperately twisting and flying in random directions in order to escape the Fighter wings which were reaping a terrible toll on them; this gave the Republic fleet enough of an opening to regroup and strike back, decimating and ultimately destroying nearly the entire ambushing fleet. After that, it was just a few short months before the two empires came to a peace treaty, one highly favorable to the Republic. And it was all owed to the Commodore.
  
  The victory at Hell's rings and the Spiral War, in general, saw Dylan promoted one final time to the rank of Vice Admiral, becoming one of the youngest to reach that rank in the long history of the Republic. Now that the Galaxy has eased itself from a war footing, peace once more restored to the systems, the fleet is needed even more to help rebuild and protect the weakened border systems. So Dylan Alyan is set up to be a prominent figure for many years to come, especially as he takes his place as the commander of the newly formed "Super" BattleGroup Pax Republica, and the brand new Super Carrier Phoenix Sound, the first of her class.
